  1. Just a reminder that the walk in MI is this coming Sunday 9/18. I hope some of you can make it.
  2. My mom Rosanne and I started a non-profit organization in MI specifically to raise awareness of lung cancer and to provide financial help to families that are facing lung cancer. We have put on a Walk & Rally and a golf outing. We are in the process of organizing our 2nd walk, which is being held on 9/18. You can go to www.gianniscause.com for more info on our foundation. I would be happy to provide you with any information you need to start up you own walk. Thanks! Gianna Reichenbach giannareichenbach@yahoo.com
  3. My mom, Rosanne, and I are have put together a foundation in memory of my father, Gianni. The Gianni Ferrarotti Lung Cancer Foundation's first event will be a Walk and Rally on September 18th at Kensington Park. This is one of the first walks in Michigan that is dedicated to lung cancer. All of the net proceeds for this event will go to the Karmanos Cancer Institute's Lung Cancer Restricted Fund. Please visit our website at www.gianniscause.com to find out more information about our foundation and to register for this event. If you are interested in advertising this event in your local community please let us know as we have materials we can send to you. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at giannareichenbach@yahoo.com or send me a PM. Thanks! Gianna
  4. We are planning to have a walk in Michigan this year. We are planning on having it in Sept due to the weather. We are just starting to plan so I don't even have a sight yet but I do have a lot of people how have offered to volunteer. I will keep you updated as I make progress.
  5. Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know that we are moving forward with a walk in Michigan. I am in the process of working with Karmanos (a local hospital) to see what support they could give us if part of the proceeds went to them. I have also contacted ALCASE but I have not heard back from them. I would also like to donate a part of the proceeds to this site - If Katie or Dave reads this please let me know if there is any support you can provide and the best way to contact you to discuss this further. I am planning for the walk to be in September (Unfortunately it is a little to cold here in Michigan to do a walk in November). I want to thank Renee for all her help so far. The information you have sent me has been great. Does everyone know what they are calling their walk? Should we try to use the same name?

    Missing my dad

Cathy - I am planning to have the walk sometime in September. I am unsure where it will be located but I am in the process of exploring sites. I am currently talking with Karmanos and ALCASE to see what type of support they can provide if we donate money to their organizations. This is really a grassroots effort to put together a walk in support of lung cancer since there is currently not such thing. I have many friends and family who have offered to volunteered to help get this going. I have also spoke with a couple people who lost people to lung cancer that want to get involved. I am very excited about this opportunity. If you would like me to keep you updated on our progress please let me know. Thanks!

    Missing my dad

Thanks for replying to my message and for your kind words! It is nice to know that there are so many people here to help you through the tough moments. I decided a couple of weeks ago to put together a walk for lung cancer in the Detroit area. Though this is a big undertaking I am excited to have the opportunity to do this in honor of my dad. As I mentioned last night I seem to miss him more everyday and I am hoping this will help.

    Missing my dad

Hi everyone - I have been a member of this board since my dad was diagnosised with lung cancer in Oct 2002. My mom has posted much more then I have (Rosanne) but I have visited the site almost everyday. At first we needed this board to learn about this terrible disease and to talk through all the problems my dad was going through with chemo, doctors, side affect, ect. Since he passed in July 2003 we have used this board to find comfort and inspiration. The reason I decided to write tonight is because of something that I am struggling with. I thought that as time went on the loss of my dad would get easier but I am finding the opposite to be true. My mom said something to me tonight that I am finding to be very true, she said, one of the hardest parts about grieving is to think about all the "what could have beens" I keep finding myself thinking of these things: how he will never know his grandchildren, how he will never be able to have a healthy retirement, how he will never be able to visit his home country of Italy again and it makes me really sad and angry I was wondering if anyone else has felt this way. I went to another funeral of someone that passed away of lung cancer tonight (this is the 4th person I have know in the past 3 years that have died of lung cancer) and I think it just got to me. Thanks for listening!
  9. Sorry everyone! I forgot to log in before I entered my last message Hi Everyone! I spoke to my mom (Rosanne) and we are both interested in putting together a walk in the Detroit area. Thanks Renee for getting me pumped up and for all the information!! I am hoping that there are others from Michigan that may be interested in coordinating this event. I would love to pull together an event committee to help with the planning. Please reply to this message or send me an email at giannareichenbach@yahoo.com. I am looking forward to a wonderful event that will honor our loved ones.

  11. Do not listen to timeframes. We were told that my dad had 2 weeks to live and that was 3 months ago! I would also recommend getting a second opinion. We have just recently switched to our 2nd opinion doctor - not due to treatment options but because we as a family needed a doctor that we felt comfortable with and listened to our questions and concerns. This is the best decision we could have made. Though my dads prognosis has not changed we defiantly feel better the process. When I was looking for where to go to get a 2nd opinion I searched the web to find what hospitals were known for cancer research and patient care. I have attached some links below that helped me in my search. Luckily 2 of the hospitals on the US News and Report list of top cancer hospitals were located in Michigan which is where we live. We called the office and said we wanted a 2nd opinion and they basically held our hand from there.
