    Colleen Brennan

Colleen died this morning. Wife, Mother, daughter, sister, friend and one very special woman. I only knew her through this site, fb and our off and on quarterly lunches. I feel shaken. She was only 36 and her darling Jack is only 7. When I know more about the families plans, I will post her. RIP dear Colleen.
  2. http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?secti ... id=8414752 2nd report
  3. Dear Friends, I received an email from John this morning. Colleen is not doing well and has started hospice care. She is a young mother with an adorable son,Jack. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.
  4. Knock, knock anybody here? 11/1/11, lc awareness month begins. Is it just me or does it look like we may get more press than usual. Eric, I love English history, especially the Tudor period. Read a lot of Phillipa Gregory books although I know she does use convenient history for her story line. The wet, wet, wet snow we had on Saturday wrecked havoc on the trees in my neighborhood. The Bradford pears and the sugar maples were the most affected. Huge branches down all over the place. I only had one small branch come down and it landed where the trash company picks up my trash. Did they pick up my branch? Of course not. Saw Moneyball last night. I went out to dinner with 2 other women who live a lone and don't want to answer the door to large people with masks on. Then to the movies, it was the 3 of us and 2 other people, strange to big in that big theatre with so few people. I am really looking forward to the new movie with Leonardo DiCarpio (not bad eye candy). The movie is Edgar J. (Hoover). Looks like his relationship with another man is very open in the movie. Back to work.
  5. Am going out to dinner and movie (Moneyball) with friends tonight. We all live alone and are not comfortable opening the door to masked people. Just call me a scaredy cat. Eric, I saw Anonymous and enjoyed it. I am researching to see if any of it is true. Would love your opinion. Judy, glad you are backing to volunteering, I know it is important to you.
  6. Nydia Hahn's, the reporter, died of lc. She never smoked.
  7. Our local abc tv station is doing a special series on lung cancer for November. Many thanks to abc. http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?secti ... id=8411643
  8. Terrific Bruce, keep the good news coming.
  9. I feel that I spend way too much time trying to educate people that both smokers and NON smokers can get lung cancer. Both drinkers and NON drinkers can get liver cancer. Both idiots and NON idiots can get brain cancer. Let us move on, let us raise the funds to research a cure for this insidious disease.
  10. Just think of this chemo as an insurance policy. Listen to your doctor. It is a very short period of time that you will be on chemo, and a very long period of time after to enjoy your life. Listen to Rochelle and drink lots and lots of fluids. And keep eating, Ensure, ice cream. How often do people tell you to eat as much ice cream as you like. Keep us posted.
  11. Shock and sadness. What a total waste. She was so smart and so funny, kind and caring.

    Pink

I am all for pink, I am all for purple, I am all for clear. We need to find a cure for all cancers, every one of them. We need to find a way to get the message out for all the different varities, lung, breast, prostate, ovarian etc etc etc. We need to get rid of stigmas. Almost all cancers can be traced back to either genetics, environment or bad habits. I smoked for many years. When I started there was no health concerns, only it wasn't very ladylike. But you guys know I am singing to the choir.
  13. Oh my God Judy, why do some people have so many tragedies in their lives. This is too sad, too sad. Treasure each and every day, each and every friend and your family, hold them close.
  14. Ok, where is everybody. Lonely place here today. I hope all are well. We have had gorgeous weather for about a week, warm and sunny. But it looks like the rain is coming. Lot of golf this weekend. I won the Flight C championship in my thursday golf league. Saw Ides of March, thoroughly enjoyed it. Took a golf lesson on Sat, what an expensive way to ruin a mediocre game. I am one of those people that think if I keep throwing money at my game it will get better, not. Alan, the Phillies and Eagles should not have your attention right now. Come back. Karen, please let us know how you are doing. Back to work.
  15. And thanks from me too Nick.
  16. I am sitting under my desk. There is a big orange ball in the sky and I am frightened. And they are saying it will be there for the next 7 days. Judy KW your travel schedule is unbelievable, I get tired just hearing about it. Judy (the other), my blood boils when I hear that the onc. won't try a treatment that the patient wants. Are they afraid of being sued? Or, as I believe, they can't believe that anyone could possibly know more than they know. ARRRRGGGGHH Hearts out to Randy on the passing of his dear Dad. Annette, get your funny posts back here, you are missed. I play for the Flight C (I should be an F) championship in one of my golf leagues tomorrow. I truly am just thrilled I made the playoff and the worse I will be is 2nd. Another cheap trophy, lol. I work on tues. and wed. so it is easier for me to post on those days. My desk top died at home and I can't type easily on my laptop. Been working on a slanted keyboard for too long. I do type on it, but it is frustrating. Don't tell me to get a plug in kb, I do the laptop on my lap, can you believe that. When I posted on fb that my computer died, my friend who is a minister offered to write a homily. I have really funny friends, thank God. Where are all the other posters. I would hate to see this site go away for lack of use. I remember how much both the support and knowledge helped me when Earl was fighting this damn disease. Remember going to his onc. and him saying, "No Ginny, Tarceva will not work for Earl", even before I asked. He knew I was getting info from this site. My all my cyber friends have a happy day.
  17. Bright purple scarf, I want one, purple is my absolutely favorite color. It has been so wet here, more rain than ever. Did it stop me from playing golf, not on your life. I am hoping that mud packs are really good for your skin, because you hit the ball in this crap and mud flies all over you. Ann, that has to be so frustrating. I would like to get the shingles shot but you have to pay for it and then get reimbursed by Aetna. Not sure how long it takes them to reimburse. It is over $200.00, may just bite the bullet because I understand that shingles are mighty painful. When are the results back? Oops, here comes by boss. Later.
  18. Not easy Randy for sure. Hopefully he is moving forward. I am totally surprised, it is raining here today and supposed to tomorrow. No one has sent me their extra wood for my ark. I qualified for the Flight C championship in one of my golf leagues and we are supposed to play the championship tomorrow. The only reason I qualified is because I showed up and a lot didn't. But I will take it anyway. Judy KW, you sure are kicking butt. You are one amazing lady and I respect your cancer attitude a lot. I just preordered the new Amazon Kindle Fire. I was thinking about buying and Ipad this winter and the Fire looks like it does alot of what I want for a whole lot less money. Judy (the other), tough times at Gilda's. Unfortunately, I think it comes with the territory. But it still difficult especially if you have established a relationship with the person. I have 9 grandchildren, 3 of them are Earl's daughter's children so they are my step grandchildren but are loved as dearly as the others. Actually my daughter's 2 children are her adopted children. So my heart loves 9, just makes my heart bigger. I am trying to spend time individually with each of them, a lunch or a dinner and just some chatting. But it is so hard with their schedules. But I am persistent. I have already scheduled a day with 8 year Jack to go to the Phila. Museum of Art to see the Van Gogh exhibit in March 2012. He is very talented in art and Van Gogh is both of our favorite artists. (Actually Jack is really my fave, but I can't tell him that. lol). Well it is back to work for me. Boss left for the day, so I may just read my book. Just started Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman. I am see her on 11/5 at a Book Lovers Luncheon. I wish all of you a calm night.
  19. This is so true Jean, BUT remember that Thom loved your very much and would not want you to be unhappy, miss him for sure but try and find some happiness as a tribute to your beautiful relationship. I know it is not easy. I still miss Earl with all my heart and it is over 7 years.

    HOPE

Wonderful, fantastic, great, fabulous, etc. Lunch?????????
  21. Kind of liked 2-1/2. Thought the idea that Rose did him in was pretty original. There are too many shows to DVR - can only do 2 in same time slot and it drives me crazy that some shows to to 10:01, just to mess you up. Never really used on demand too much, but checking it out now. Went to my friend Jeanne's gathering on Saturday. Have never been to a 'gathering' before and did not like it. Her family was there, many pictures of her were there BUT no music, no one spoke, no coffee, no cookies only loads of chairs. My friends and I thought it was weird and cold. Any of you ever been to a 'gathering'? I am putting out a call for some free wood to finish building my ark. Katie, I know you guys need rain but we are getting too much and it is interfering with my golf. I know, I could have worse problems. Missing Annette. Hope she gets it together soon. Judy MI, I give you a lot of credit for all the work you do at Gilda's. Must be tough emotionally. Judy FL, you are like the energizer bunny with all your trips and company. I get tired just reading about them. Have lost 18 lbs. myself, want to lose 8 more. It started when I had to prep for the dreaded colon....... and lost 5 lbs during the prep. So I decided I was going to put on my big girl discipline pants and really watch what I eat (although not what wine I drink). There is discipline and there is ridiculous. Also, got my hair cut much shorter and now have veneers on my front teeth. I am a new (but old) woman. Now does anyone have a good wrinkle cream? Back to work.
  22. e. I have a friend who was dx'd 3 years ago with ext. sclc and is alive and living life to the fullest. She has been moved to scans every 6 months. She should be the poster child for this. I hope your Mother is right there with her and that the treatments are sucessful and easy on her.

    My friend Jeanne

Jeanne P. Fahey of Blue Bell, PA passed away September 6th, 2011 at Abington Hospice at Warminster. She is survived by her husband William, her daughter Elizabeth Tornetta, her son Mark Campbell, her sister Alex Fuller and her brothers David and Dana Philippi. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Gathering being held in her memory on Saturday September 17th, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Kirk & Nice Funeral Home 80 Stenton Ave. Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Abington Hospice at Warminster at 225 Newtown Rd. Warminster, PA 18974 would be appreciated.
  24. OK, reality show geek is checking in. I agree with Annette, I am almost always underwhemed with the DWTS group, but I think it is because I really don't know them, but end up having favorites. Amazing Race - I love it. Good Wife - my fav. Pan Am is getting good reviews, will at least check it out. Survivor, of course. HGTV Design Star just finished, boo hoo. And Top Chef doesn't start for awhile. My DVR has been programmed. I wake up about 4:30 and watch the shows that I couldn't stay up to watch the night before. We have had so many problems here with flooding from all the rain. The young gal I work with is now out trying to find a new apartment and her car was totalled in the flood. Another friend lives in a condo community and 12 of the condos were destroyed. And that is just some of them. Have seen a bunch of good movies lately, The Help, Sarah's Key and The Debt. I would recommend all of them. Happy about Annette's good news. Judy, I love fall - reminds me of a new purse for school and hockey practice. Hate that it comes before winter. Alan, go Eagles and Phillies.
