  1. My mom finished radiation therapy approximately 7 months ago. She is stage IIIB. On her last CAT scan report, the technician indicated that there is a mass in her lung and concluded that the tumor has grown. The doctor said that they could see no evidence of a tumor inside the mass, but rather it was the scar tissue that has grown. The family is confused. Unfortunately, I did not think to quiz the doctor on this issue. Any insights? Thanks.
  2. My mom was diagnosed with stage IIIB squamous cell in July2003. She has already had 4 treatments of chemo and will start the chemo/radiation therapy Oct 20th. Today was her radiation simulation. After we got home from the hospital, she mentioned she had three sites noted for rad treatment. One was located in the area that her tumor was discovered (upper right lung), but the other two were down below her belly button, it appeared to be at the bottom of each lung. I did not have a chance to ask the doctors about it, because I did not know then. But, here's my question....are these 2 bottom locations "normal" site locations for a tumor in the upper lung (or mediastinum, where it has also grown), or would it appear that there might be two other locations of tumors? I will ask the rad oncologist this question at the next visit, but until then...does anyone have any thoughts?
  3. Hello all, Don't want to be here, but glad I found these boards. My mom was diagnosed with stage IIIb in July 2003. It was diagnosed during SOP for amputation surgery. Needless to say, she, and the family, is extremely overwhelmed. She is 73 yo, just lost her right leg, and is now fighting lung cancer. I also believe she is depressed (who wouldn't be?) I have been lurking on these boards for a couple of weeks and found both hope and sadness. My prayers to all. Sue S
