  1. Hi Stephanie: My wife Deb had a Gamma Knife procedure done a couple of weeks ago at Hoag - they mounted a frame on her head (sounds worse than it was for her) and the procedure took a few hours. There are no robotics or concurrent X-Ray, but they did do a double contrast high density MRI prior to the procedure, then used computer positioning with the MRI to perform the Gamma Knife procedure. She had difficulty with being held in a particular position for some time, and a side effect was heavy swelling over her eyes for about 5 days after the procedure. Hope this helps for comparison, Bob
  2. Hi Teresa: Thanks for posting this - as it happens, Dr. Barth at Hoag has recommended a combination of of gefitinib in conjunction with cisplatin and docetaxel. Deb has been doing this since mid September - I am trying to find supporting citations & research to justify this with our insurance folks but have had no success to date - the closest I have found so far is some work by Frances A. Shepherd, MD at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto who spoke at The 3rd Princess Margaret Hospital Conference on New Developments in Cancer Management in September, 2003... Thanks again, Bob
  3. Kristy - my wife has been on Iressa for 3 weeks - the onc has had her on it as well as carbo+taxotere (1st cycle completed last Thursday) Deb has mets to adrenal glands, neck lymph nodes, brain, etc. - the onc says the Iressa may slow or stop mets as well as tumor growth... The other thing he did was send a pathology of her brain tumor to Baylor for testing (P53, EGFR, TS, etc.) - I am not sure what all this info means yet except generally it appears to indicate a predictive response to Iressa, resistance to Cisplatin (Carbo) etc. Deb has not been in for a scan yet to see how she is responding - one difference we have noted is that they give her Taxotere every week for 3 weeks, the carboplatin only the first week. The taxotere doses are smaller, but in aggregate result in a larger dose over the 3 weeks. Keep the faith, Bob
  4. Somehow my login stopped working - so I created a new one today to get back on board. A lot has happened in the weeks since I was last on - Deb started Carbo+Taxotere, had radiation X10 days, started Iressa, and did a Gamma Knife procedure last week where they found and treated 6 brain lesions. We just got the pathology test results back from the Lab - Debs EGFR is at 5.1; P53 is at 0%; Metallothionein is Positive(Avg-50%);TS is Negative;Ki-67/MIB-1 is 61% - still researching what these all mean. Thanks to all that replied to this thread - I am going to move to the Late Stage NSCLC board with the next posts... Bob
