  1. Finally and after months of emails back and forth between me and several doctors...all of them agreed that my father is a candidate for RFA for both lung and maybe bone if needed ( father had radiation to his bones) I Encourage all of you to give it a serious thought,it has very promising results at least if not curing then the relief of pain....as for my father and as i said before doctors gave us the impression that he got only weeks but now its been month and he is in a stable stage - They didnt know how tough my father is, everyone in the oncology department praise him- but this chemo business is worrying me....and i dont want it thats why i searched each and every site about RFA and it sure does give hope.....i suggest you all look it up and a good place to start is with Dr. Williams at http://www.cancerablation.com a REAL fantastic doctor who sure did give me a lot of his time and answered the ten thousand questions i had i do have list of other doctors but i suggest you email this doctor cause he is the one stop for everyone i think
  2. Hi Annie, It sounds to me like you have 2 types of Doctors -worst thing to have in my opinion always puts you in a dilemma- one who takes things as they come the other is the fighter type trying to take one step ahead of cancer....and as far as my and my father's nature and his cancer i certainly would go with the fighting doctor provided that your dad is in a good condition as cancer patient... I hope full recovery for your dad
  3. Hiya Adam Blood transfusion is essintial specially for your fath cause he has the same problem as mine...cancer in spine......doesnt help in rbc and at a certain point he'd need it..but yes he'd feel better and better....and usually each pack increases his blood hp 1 point or so and if i were you....i'd feed him all the good stuff that helps him maintain his blood level while he is feeling extra good! I'm so very glad that his pain is getting less.........and i wish him full recovery
  4. Dearest Adam, I sure know how you are feeling, my father was in so much pain because of his spine that it made his eyes pop out at times...and they did radiate that area.....pain only started to wear off after a week....very slowly but it was easing off.......I'm writing this to tell you something in advance maybe its a bit early but i dont want you struggling like i did. After a month of radiating the spine things got better.....he has a stiff back cant bend like before...pain do come occasionally....dont make him move a lot specially the first weeks...another thing.....low red cell count... Spine is a major area of blood production so feed him food that affect blood count.....such as broccoli...spinash...parcely (with carrot juice tastes good) salads and salads and more salad... pure red meat...fish... No oily stuff no fried stuff... eggs whites good in protien. I hope i helped...i hope your father wont need all of this but its never bad to be aware from now! My heart goes out for you and everyone here
  5. DO NOT let this few months to live crab get in to you....They are not God's...my father was given WEEKS!!! and that was back in July but he is still here well and good living not as before yese but he is fighting... FIGHT and be a fighter inside out and all around and you'd be amazed how you will affect him and how things get better
  6. I can sure understand how you feel...My father had a similar problem actually he had it in his spine, L14 and 15 and the pain was beyond believe i could see it on his face and and the doctors did a radiation on that area and conitnued his chemo.....it took well over a week for any pain reduction......now he gets pain there but not as severe as before. and somehow it can be controlled by pain killers (Morphine that is) Although cancer never gives time for a person but you have to give time for the pain to go away.....and believe me at times we can do nothing but to sit and pray
  7. I thank you all for the support and you all were right,i guess i was so very frustrated and desperate and maybe angry at everything and anything and i took it out on him in a way or the other...never will do that again...actually i couldnt resist being away from him so i got back the second day (i couldnt be earlier than that due to plumbing problems in my house ) anyways he went again 2 days ago to take his delayed chemo doze but again his blood hp was only at 8.7 and they wanted to proceed with a blood transfusion but he refused again, the doctors set us another date this Wed. hopefully his blood will better, his wbc is better tho, above 6 now, they also gave him some form of Steroids i think, tablets 3xday,which is making him eat better now...now i'm wondering this delay...will it affect the treatment? y'all are the best!!!
  8. my father 68yrs old was diagnosed with Lung cancer with mets to the shoulder and two of his rips last July 03... I’m not gonna talk about the emotional atrocity my family and specially me faced (since I’m the youngest and me and him are very close). He's been a heavy smoker for well over 50 years but never complained of anything....and never had any of the illnesses that comes along with age…all his tests always returned normal except recently for a pain in his shoulder that wouldn’t go away....this pushed us to do a full CT-Scan,MRI and all sorts of blood test. Discovered that he has a tumor in his left lung on the outer side, mets to left shoulder and two tiny spots on his rips, Immediately we started chemo (taxotere +Carbo.) In the meantime he was given radiation to his shoulder but after the 3rd chemo dosage....he started having severe pain in his back only to discover that it spread to his back (L4,L5 and spine) he was given radiation there and changed chemo to Gemzar+Navelbine(2x week,1x week off) side affect wise......taxotere was a disaster, he went thru each and every side affect they mentioned in their website...some were so painful and severe despite the fact that my father is a very strong man....but ever since taking Gemzar things are a little better he finished the first session out of six okay but second session he managed to take it okay but today he went to take his second one but his HP was 8.6 and wbc was 4+ they wanted to give him blood trans. but he refused and Doc' rescheduled the appointment for 2 more days. he refused taking any pain killers or anything for the stomachache saying that he can bare and even if he does,he does it only when it gets unbearable He didn’t experience any new symptoms other than the back ache …no coughing, tiredness except when taking chemo I’ve started giving him lots of vitamins, minerals, calcium and nutritional drinks since more than a month now……along with loads of greens and juices …..I'm writting this cause i have a major problem with his eating habits, he doesn’t feel like eating at all and when he does eat,he only eats couple of spoons then he says that he is full....he doesnt want to take any medication to imporve his appetite. Through out this whole situation, I was with him, I left my home and went to stay with him and my mom to look after him,but today I got so furious and mad that he couldn’t take his chemo,I didn’t speak to him or tell him anything,I just packed and came back home, I felt that he needs to know that I don’t approve his doings and he is not listening to whatever I tell him anymore, my heart is breaking to leave him alone but I wanted to take a stand telling him,if he wants to fight this cancer I’m with him but if he wants to lay back and just give up,I wont be with him (of course I will but just acting as if I will not) I know this is a very long story for you all to read…..but I need your help to make him be more active as he used to be and most of all TO EAT!!! I also heard a lot about RadioFrequency ablation? anybody know good doctors who does it?? Please advice me
