  1. Good evening, everyone!

I was off for the holiday on Monday, but rode to work the next four days. The weather was dry all week, but there was a wide range of temperatures. It was 26 degrees as I rode to work Tuesday morning, and 73 degrees as I rode home today.

Sorry to read of your biopsy troubles, MI Judy. I hope you're better soon and home soon. Needles and lungs just never did sound like a very good mix to me.

I'm going to take my kayak to Lake Benbrook tomorrow morning, then Rose and I are supposed to go out to a club tomorrow night, so I'll likely just say home and zombie out on Sunday.

    Have a great weekend, all!

  2. Sorry about the shingles, Katie. It definitely wasn't any fun when I had it last year.

I just got home from fishing. The crappie didn't bite very well, but there were lots of white bass to keep me entertained.

Rose and I are going out dancing with another couple. We'll close down a bar. Happy New Year, everyone!

  3. can you ban spammers Bud?? I ban them by IP address then delete!! glad you got it all cleaned up though!

I didn't know until today that I could. I would have never caught up with today's spammer otherwise. I'll settle for banning them then reporting them to Katie so she can breathe fire down upon them.

  4. Eric, you must have been posting while I was locked in mortal combat with that spammer. I was deleting his posts, but he was still online making new posts faster than I could delete. I finally figured out how to ban him, then was able to delete all of his posts. There must have been 30 or more. By then, my lunch break was over. I never saw your post or I would have merged it.

It's supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow afternoon. I'm thinking I'll be fishing in that kayak again. Have a great day, all!

  5. Good evening, everyone!

It was 37 degrees as I rode to work this morning. It got up to 66 degrees this afternoon, a beautiful day for the ride home. Tomorrow, 5 miles into my ride to work, I will reach my mileage goal for the year, 7,500 miles.

Bud, when Dominick and I were at the bridge where he was taking pics, a couple came around the bend in a kayak. I told Dominick I really wanted to do it but Stan says his shoulders wouldn't handle it.

Judy, I'm glad I got a pedal kayak. My left shoulder wouldn't handle paddling right now at all. It seems to be my biggest single health problem these days. My primary doctor thinks it's bursitis. He's already done an x-ray, and an MRI with contrast is scheduled for next month, as well as physical therapy, which he hopes will help.

    Have a great day, all!

  6. Good evening, everyone!

It was 30 degrees when I got up this morning. It warmed to 60 degrees this afternoon with sunny skies, a beautiful day, although the south wind did get up this afternoon.

I didn't ride to work this morning. I had an oncologist follow up appointment, so had to leave work early and drive to Dallas for it. There was no scan, but everything was fine with my blood work.

Good luck with the biopsy, MI Judy. I have no experience with that. My tumor was so obviously lung cancer that my doctors recommended going straight to surgery without a biopsy, which agreed with what I had already decided.

Eric, as it shows in this image, my kayak's pedal drive is actually toward the front of the kayak. Mine is actually what's usually called a hybrid kayak, because although it's made of plastic like most kayaks, it's actually more like a canoe, except for its tunnel hull, which makes it very stable for such a small boat. Here's a video that explains the kayak very well. It shows a 12 foot kayak, while I have the 14.5 foot version, but it works the same.

    Have a great day, all!

  7. Good evening, everyone!

It was 42 degrees as I rode to work this morning, and 60 degrees on the ride home. But, a front has come in and it's supposed to turn chilly for the next few days.

I'm off work for the next four days. Rose and I are waiting until daughter Linda gets off work Saturday at noon, then taking her to Midland for a big family gathering. We'll be back on Sunday.

I'm going fishing tomorrow. I've had some great trips in my kayak this fall. With Lake Whitney being 17 feet low right now, the river above it that's been my great winter spot for the last few years has returned to really being a river. There's no place to launch a big boat now, and you have to navigate 4 inches of water in places to reach my crappie spot. But it's still 17 feet deep there, and the crappie are still there in great numbers. Here's a shot of my kayak, rigged and ready, and amonster crappie from last week.

In case I don't stop back by before then, Merry Christmas, everyone!

  8. It was four years ago today that I endured a lobectomy that removed the upper half of my left lung. The biopsy done on the tumor taken in that surgery resulted in my official diagnosis. So, as of today, I'm a four year survivor. As of my last scan, I was still cancer free.

  9. Good morning, everyone!

It was 62 degrees as I rode to work this morning. Forecast high is 73, then storms and a cold front are supposed to hit. I'm hoping I make it home before the storms get here.

Things are going great with me, but I've been very busy. Things are hopping here at work, and I'm trying to do at least one DOD online review each evening to get that done before the deadline in January.

    Have a great day, all!

  10. Sorry you're faced with this, Stephanie. Watch the prochlorperazine. All the while the hospital was thinking it was IV morphine making me sick, dizzy, and out of it after my surgery, it turned out to be the prochlorperazine.

  11. Good morning, everyone!

It was 46 degrees and misting as I rode to work this morning. The strong north wind made it seem colder. If it dries up as expected this afternoon, then I'll likely ride an extra 10 miles on the way home, like I have every day this week.

You know you could pick a significant birthday to rachet down the number of miles you continue to expect of yourself each year.

I'm plotting how to cut down my work hours, not how to cut down my riding miles........LOL.

Our new home is just 1150 square feet, and nice on utilities. Even though it's total electric, and we keep three computers and a wireless internet box turned on all the time, even with our brutal summer, our electric bill was never over $200. The window unit air conditioner we added to the master bedroom, so we could let the rest of the house get warmer at night in the summer, helped. Last month's bill was less than $100.

I also became a cord cutter this year (google "cord cutter" if you don't know what that means). My high speed internet and Netflix together total less that $45 a month. With house, both vehicles, boats, and bikes all paid for, my living expenses are looking better for the piddly retirement income I'll soon be living on. I'll still need to change my shopping habits so that I'm buying less "stuff" when I retire, though.

They're calling for a 90 percent chance of rain tomorrow, then turning cold with more rain on Sunday, so I'm glad I got some good riding miles during the week this week. It may be a weekend of vegging out with Netflix.......LOL.

    Have a great day, all!

  12. Good morning, everyone!

It was 30 degrees as I rode to work this morning. Forecast high is 60. I took the long way home Monday and yesterday, getting 10 extra miles each day, and I'll do it again today. Even with those extra miles, my November mileage is down, and I'll need to ride 500 miles in December to make my goal for the year. That could be challenging if the weather doesn't cooperate. But I'm still at my target summer weight, so the lack of miles hasn't hurt me too much yet, I guess.

I had a great dinner yesterday. The shrimp and corn on the cob came from the freezer, but the sliced tomatoes were from my garden. The fresh broccoli was from my garden. The bowl of snap peas was from a friend's garden, and the onions, garlic, and green peppers used to flavor the peas were all from my garden.

I'm really enjoying that garden. But the last three mornings of below freezing temperatures will put a quick end to the tomatoes and peppers. It's time to get some more winter vegetables planted.

    Have a great day, all!

  13. Good morning, everyone!

It was 39 degrees with fog as I rode to work this morning. Forecast high is 68. It's supposed to be a little warmer than that tomorrow, a beautiful day for Thanksgiving.

We're having our Thanksgiving feast at Rose's sister's house. We're eating later than we usually do on Thanksgiving, so I'm going to take advantage of that and get up early and go fishing. I've taken my kayak to the Brazos River above Lake Whitney the last two weekends and really caught a lot of big crappie. My freezer is well stocked again.

    Have a great Thanksgiving, all!

  14. Good evening, everyone!

Last week's severe head cold turned into this week's severe bronchitis. I rode to work Monday, but wheezed and hacked so much that I took the next 3 days off the bike. I missed beautiful, warm riding days Tuesday and yesterday, but it turned chilly and windy yesterday evening, and was cooler today. I'm going to get up early and see if I feel up to riding tomorrow morning.

The stories about being squeamish about eating game reminded me of my grandson's first crappie trip. After he named his first big crappie Steve, I had my doubts about how it was going to go when it came time for him to watch me clean the fish, and Rose fry them. But, he just remarked about how delicious Steve was, and kept on eating......LOL.

Here's what my tomato plants looked like this evening (note the piece of PVC being used to keep the tomato cages from tipping over from the weight). Have a great evening, all!
