    Dad-update

On Tuesday night, after completing 10 WBR and 8 lung radiations, dad became very ill. We took him to UM Hospital, where they admitted him, telling us he was in his final days. After 1 1/2 days of constantly praying over him, his friends came to say their final good bye. Dad passed away on 10/9/08, at the age of 75. He died peacefully with his immediate family around him. I cannot express how many times I"ve gone to this website, looking for an answer, or an 'exception' to the rule. I appreciate so much the information and support I've received. I cannot imagine my life without him. He was the rock of the family and will truly be missed. God Bless you all. Amy
  2. Dad has had 8/10 scheduled WBR and 6 lung radiations. He absolutely refuses to eat b/c of the soreness of his throat. We are trying ice cream from the local dairy, and fresh fruit, but he is literally, wasting away. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get him to get food down? I've heard of a 'miracle mouthwash' that numbs the throat before eating...anyone heard of that? Also, anyone try a feeding tube? I feel like he's just slipping away.. Also, any info on exhaust, etc. He literally sleeps, 18 hours/day with no interest in anything else. In addition, anyone experience coughing up blood during lung radiation? Any and all info would help! Thanks Amy

    Lung radiation

Thanks for the responses. I don't think the spitting up blood is a good sign. I am so sad and scared....this whole thing just SUCKS!
  4. Hello everyone-For those of you who have had lung radiation, did you experience spitting up blood? My dad has had three coughs today, all with blood and mucus. Just trying to find out if this is 'normal'. Thanks Amy
  5. I appreciate all of you who had WBR and are doing well. That is encouraging! Everyday just seems like an emotional battle...Every time it seems as though we have a plan of action, there is a wrench thrown in. Love and prayers to you all. I don't know what SUV or SOB means...at least in this context! Can someone help? Thanks
  6. Dad after being RX'd @ stage IV in June (lung to adrenal) has now developed two brain lesions. They plan on doing WBR in addition to lung and adrenal. I see many people on this site who have had radiation to the brain. Can you tell me what to expect? ( I know everyone is not the same...) I see a lot of people who have had it and recovered well. Dad is in excellent shape. I am hopeful that he can resume some kind of normal life after this...My brother, sister, mom and I are beside ourselves with worry, angst, sadness, etc. Thanks
  7. We discovered two mets to the brain yesterday. Docs want to do WBR in addition to lung and adrenal gland. Can anyone tell me what to expect for the radiation to any part of the body? This is our first experience with this. Dad is very healthy and made it through four rounds of chemo without much problem. (carbo and taxol). I guess I am anxious about his ability to resume somewhat of a normal life....Any info would be helpful! Thanks and many prayers to all of you. Amy
