  1. I agree to go for the second opinion Also I believe it depends on what type of LC you have. Tarceva has proven to be more beneficial for certain types of LC, like I know it is a main treatment in BAC, but with other types of LC chemo is used before Tarceva.
  2. I understand that there may be studies that say a healthy diet is better, but I can only go by my experience..........my mom eats cookies, cake, lots of bread, lots of fruit (fruit has sugar). Sometimes she has cookies and tea for breakfast or lunch. Sometimes ice cream will be her dinner instead of food. She eats what she wants b/c certain foods make her nauseous still. November will mark 5 years. I personally have not seen her diet play any role and I don't buy into the diet stuff only b/c I haven't seen it have any effect on my parents
  3. I am a Daysaholic I am a few weeks behind and I knew she was coughing up blood, but didn't know the diagnosis. It will be an interesting storyline!
  4. Thanks everyone! I take back what I said though, it is not a shoe dropping. If him being small is the worst thing in the world, we are lucky. Grandparents are not as calm, but I am
  5. Well I knew another shoe was doing to drop.....it is mid-way in air right now. Jacob is being worked up for skeletal dysplasia which means the doctors think he has a form of dwarfism He is such a little hunk, I still am in shock. It is a tricky diagnosis to make. He is very small for his age, but looks normal. Keep us in your prayers if you don't mind. Thanks!
  6. Thanks so much everyone!!! His surgery went well He is home now and seems fine. Next week we see more drs for the lack of growth. He has been off chart for height all along and they say he may need hormone shots. Tests already done a few months ago were fine. But now we are seeing a dip in the curve even further; a dip in weight despite eating a lot; and no growth in height or weight for over 2 1/2 months, so they want to evaluate. I did you all proud today in stalking for results!!!! These medical facilitiees do not care about us!
  7. If you have some extra, please say a prayer for my son Jacob tomorrow. He is having surgery for an undescended testicle. I know it is not serious in the scheme of things, but it does involve anasthesia. My husband told his office he is taking off b/c Jacob has surgery. Instead of saying it is to pull down his testicle, he says "just minor cosmetic stuff." Cosmetic surgery on a 14 month. Love it! But I guess have two little ballys instead of 1 is cosmetic too Also need more prayers for him b/c he is not growing at a normal rate. He has always had height issues and now he dipped further off the chart and his weight for the first time went below also. He is being worked up for a bunch of things for "failure to thrive". Some of the stuff is pretty scary, other stuff seems minor in the scheme of things. Thanks!
  8. Yesterday marked the two year point. I vividly remember sitting in the surgeon's office on his 65th b-day when we were told he likely had lung cancer. Time flies! He has scans coming up end of October. He has a cough, but the oncologist didn't seem concerned. He had a visit last week. Thanks for all your support! I may not post as often b/c my twins are keeping me busy, but I read all the time. The babies don't like it, they stand by me and scream when I am on the computer
  9. My dad is almost 2 years out and my mom is nearing 5 years. I think about cancer daily. The term lung cancer is in my head at least 10 times a day. That said, as time went on, it has consumed us a lot less. We do think about it all the time, but maybe the thoughts total 1-2 hours a day instead of 20 hours a day. Keeping busy definately helps. One day you are going to be surprised and see a few hours go by before it enters your mind. Hang in t here!

    My beautiful momma

I am so sorry for your loss
  11. THanks Judy!!! !I am saving that message for when I start my food again b/c I just LOVE eggplant!!!!
  12. It is more expensive to eat healthy. Crazy huh? I once read in a diet book that you really just have to go to the two ends of grocery stores, fresh fruit/veggies and meat and skip all the stuff in the aisles. Judy, for those who are challenged in the kitchen, yet love eggplant, do you have to grill outside on a bbq, or can you grill inside? And can you tell me exactly how to do it? I love eggplant, just never know how to cook it. I will be back on food Sept 24 and need to eat healthier at that point Your hubby could be onto something with the meds, my mom does not eat that much and yet she still manages to stay fluffy (yet cute of course).
  13. Awesome job Snowflake! This dieting is no fun and really better for the birds. Judy--losing the 10 won't effect the cancer :) But if it makes you feel better to keep it, 10 is really not much at all. You can do what I did when I gained weight, buy the same stuff in just a bigger size :) Debi I m cracking up, I actually did something similar 2 years ago. I guess the meds for infertility helped speed up my metabolism and I ate bad and I did not gain weight and i got really worried and kept eating to make sure I could gain weight. My parents thought I was literally insane b/c I was heavy and a few pounds to lose was good. hahahaha. For those dieting, keep it up. For those not, please eat a cookie for me. Yum!!!!
  14. How is everyone doing? Any weight losses? I am down 29.6 in 6 weeks. Yay! I miss food though. Even brocoli and carrots sound good!!!! 6 weeks left and t hen I move on to regular food. Anyone have Wii Fit? I am thinking about getting it.
  15. My mom was put on the carbo/gemzar treatment as her first line of treatment and she responded very well. The side effects were not too bad and she lost about half of her hair, never having a need for a wig. When her hair grew back it was a little curlier, called it a chemo perm, but now it is all back to normal
  16. My mom had something similar after radiation, a really bad cough. It was radiation pneumotis (i am sure I did not spell that right). I just called her and she said some was given something called liquid pearl and it helped a lot.
  17. For those who want to join the weekly weigh in, I am annoyed, only down 2.6 this week and that is with 500 calories a day and going to the gym 5 times doing classes at 24 hour fitness. OY OY OY. I guess it will eventually come off!!! I am down 18.8 though in 3 weeks so I can't complain yet. I can complain only when it totally stops I guess

    BAC

My dad has that type of lung cancer. It is kind of another branch of lung cancer, BAC acts a litlte different than NSCLC and SCLC. It tends to be slower growing, but more resistant to chemo and responds better to Tarceva.
  19. Awhile back we had a Getting Smaller club for those of us who needed to shed a few pounds of fluff. I have been a life long chub with some recenty yo-yoing and I have polycystic ovary syndrome which adds to the problem b/c it makes you mroe resistant to weight loss. I had my gallbladder out, my surgeon said I need to go on a medically supervised diet or consider the gastric bypass, so here I am week 3 of drinking my 5 shakes a day, going weekly to the dr, and started back at the gym!!!! Who wants to join me on a diet? We can share tips, whine, celebrate losses with weigh-ins on Friday, and support each other on a quest for better health. When I lose 50lbs, my parents and hubby are going to get me a Louis Voutton bag. I have wanted one forever.

    rich

Rich you continue to be an inspiration to us all!
  21. I know that some places give a "cash discount". I was recommended to get breast MRIs, but insurance won't pay for it, so the hospital gives a cash discount, I g uess they charge me less t han they charge insurance.
  22. Thanks everyone Ry, I should post about Getting Smaller Club in just for fun, it is a good idea :) It is a medically supervised diet, it is literally called "Very Low Calorie Diet". I eat 5 shakes a day that was provided by the center and I see a dr weekly to get checked. I don't recommend going on 500 calories without clearance I will post after results.
  23. My mom goes for her scans on Thursday. I am already nervous and itchy ( I hate being itchy all over). I feel like things are too good, the other shoe must drop. GGGRRRRR. I am soooo blessed and lucky, I am fully aware of that, but I also know luck has to run out at some point. I know it is normal to go through these feelings, I decided to post in case others feel the same way, they are not alone (and I love to whine). In other news, I gained a lot of the weight back that I had lost last year, so I am on a medically supervised diet that I started two weeks ago. I get 5 shakes a day for 500 calories. No more eating macaroni n cheese off the highchair. I also went back to the gym. Why is it that only skinny people do the classes???? I try to hide in the back, but since I am fluffy I stick out and an instructor usually comes over to correct my form. Thankfully I am not shy in my old age! I will write when scan results come in.
  24. Hi! It is good to see you. Let us know how it goes and also about the vaccine!
