  1. Just wanted to thank everyone that has welcomed me to this site. I've been busy with Thanksgiving and haven't had time to sit down and say thanks before now. Also, I've had a little set back with some chest congestion. Doctor prescribed Z-pack and Prednisone which has sent my stomach through some real trials during the last week. Getting better now. I'll have a chest xray next week then a checkup on 12/15. I will not have another scan until Jan. '09. I am so excited to see so many on this site that have or or taking Tarceva. I can't believe how well it is working for me and I pray that it will continue to get me towards remission. I really am watching my diet and staying away from sugar, white flour and all processed foods. I do miss my Diet Coke though but I don't want the artificial sweetners in my body any longer. I truly believe there is a definite connection between cancer and what we eat, breathe and expose our bodies to in this world. I wish I had been awake to this knowledge 20 years ago! I look and feel better than I did before my diagnosis. www.caringbridge.org/visit/gailredmond
  2. I just joined this board but have found so much support already and I would like to extend my heartfelt concern for your husband and I will add him to my prayer list. He sould like a wonderful man who is trying to keep you "up" . That is a miracle in itself considering his circumstances. He can beat this with great doctors, lots of prayer and the support of a loving family and friends. Hope will take you a long way! Gail R.
  3. My friend started Alitma 2 weeks ago and will have 1 treatment every three weeks for a total of 6 treatments. He has not had any side effects at all with this drug. He kept waiting for something to kick in and nothing ever did after the first week so he drove from Murrells Inlet SC to Huntington WVa to a family reunion and felt great the whole time. I think this is a wonderful drug as far as mild side effects go. Good luck. Gail R.
  4. I have also experienced itchy eyes. You Dad's sounds more serious than mine but I just used the eyedrops that I used with my eye contacts and that helped tremendously. Drink plenty of water too. I know the Tarceva is really drying me out everywhere. My fingers are shriveled on the ends because of lack of hydration. If his eyes are bleeding, the doctor might could reduce his dosage. I've heard that helps. Hope he gets better. Gail R.
  5. Sandra, I actually began my treatment with Tarceva in August and not knowing any better, took my first pill then went on a boat outing on a hot August afternoon. Boy, did I get sunburned. After the sun went down, a tingling all over my body. I really learned a lesson. Wear a good sunscreen and don't stay out in the sun for long periods. After that experience I would just go out for about 15 to 20 minutes then head for cover, a tent or umbrella. We live on a lake in NC and we have NO shade trees in our yard so I would just go sit on the deck under our umbrella. This way, I could still enjoy being outside with everyone else. One great side effect....the bugs don't like me anymore. Yea!! Gail R.
  6. Ned, My doctor said that because I was a white female, non smoker with no underlying diseases, that I was a perfect candidate. I am in perfect health other than the lc. I was treated for pneumonia twice before my dx and then we found out that I never had pneumonia in the first place. He mentioned at my last visit on Oct. 22 that patients who respond well, typically continue to respond well. That is to be seen since I've only had one scan. I will have another chest xray in Dec. to see if my lungs are still clear of any infection, ect. I hope I know how to put my link in the message box. This is all new to me to it may be trial and error at first. Thanks for the suggestion and foryour kind words of welcome. Gail
  7. I'm lost! Can you walk me through it? Gail
  8. Sandra, Just read your history. What a journey! I see you are on Tarceva 125. I am on Tarceva 150 with good success after 8 weeks. Were there side effects that you couldn't withstand on the 150? This is the only treatment I've been on so I've interested in anyone that has taken it. Gail Redmond Sherrills Ford, NC
  9. My name is Gail Redmond and I was diagnosed with Stage IV Adenocarcinoma, metatastic to both lungs and medistinal lymph nodes, on August 15, 2008. My oncolologist chose to skip chemo and radiation, since my tumor is inoperable. I am on Tarceva and am showing great progress as of my last CT scan on 10/22. Main tumor has shrunk 80%, lymph nodes normal, all other spots have diminished to the " you can see through them" stage. I feel great except for more fatigue than before and very dry skin. I have been very blessed to have been a candidate for this medicine. Though there is no cure, I am enjoying a wonderful quality of life through my treatment and praying for remission someday. My doctor is very hopeful and optimistic since I have responded so well initially. I am a 56 year old wife, mother of 3 beautiful daughters and grandmother of 1 delightful and beautiful granddaughter. I look forward to hearing from other LC patients and survivors and hopefully I can provide some inspiration to others traveling this journey in the same way that I have received inspiration from hundreds since my diagnosis. HOPE is what we all need! Gail [/i]
