  1. I had frequently visited this forum in the last few months trying to get some insight and information that might help in the situation my family and I have been going through. My mom who is 64 years old was diagonosed with NSCLC adenocarcinoma on May 27, 2008. That also happened to be the same day I gave birth to my son. Bad timing, huh? Anyhow, at first they knew that the size tumor on her lung was rather large, but the scans that were done, didnt show the cancer was anywhere but there. They decided to remove what they could of her lung and that be it. Now, I dont know which part of her lung, how big it was, or much detail because my mom is one to not ask questions. I have begged her to get more info each time she goes, but she is kind of stubborn. And me, with a newborn and no one to help keep him, I was unable to go with her. Well, once they got her into surgery they were able to remove the cancer from the lung, but also noticed that two lymph nodes were cancerous. I have no idea why these didnt show up before. From what I have read online, if lymph nodes are infected, they wont do surgery to remove the lung. They recommended she follow up with chemo. She did 4 months of chemo a combo of Cisplatin and Vinerolbine. She would go one day a week, the next week 2 days, then the 3rd week none. All this time she has been very winded from the removal of what I imagine is a large part of one of her lungs. She also has a bad hip that needs replaced which is actually how we found out about her cancer. It was shown on a pre op xray. Well, to make a long story short, she had her 1 st Pet scan yesterday and today she got the results we all wanted to hear!!! Between the many prayers and the chemo, there was no sign of cancer anywhere!!!!! So, for all you like me that are searching for good news, somewhere, anywhere, please have hope and keep praying. We know we have a long journey ahead of us, but this is a great start. I feel like I can breathe a sigh of relief!!!! I felt like I needed to share my story with all of you and join this forum so that I may help someone like the stories in here helped me thses past few months!!!! Merry Christmas
