  1. Hi E! Welcome, sorry for the late hello. I was dx'd with limited SCLC 4/28/08 and I'm still kicking! SCLC is very scary, but it does respond well to chemo. Sending prayers your way for your Mom and family. Dana
  2. Hi Sarah! Sorry for the late welcome. I was dx'd with SCLC on 4/28/08 and I'm still here! The stats on SCLC are very scary and are out of date. Survival rates have increased so don't let the old info on the internet scare you. Sounds like Mom is doing great and it is very good to keep busy, at least it kept me from thinking to much! Dana
  3. Hi Susan, Sorry for the late "welcome". I had SCLC limited. You can read about it in my signature. I was dx'd almost 3 years ago and I'm still here! Good Luck! Ask, yell, scream, laugh and cry it's all good here! Dana
  4. Could hardly stand a wig. I had a whole bunch of scarves. One thing really good about losing your hair? It keeps you much cooler! Dana
  5. Welcome Karen, I had SCLC too. I went on line and read all the stats and just flat scared myself half to deatth! I'm still kicking! So my advice is don't read the stats! Dana
  6. Hi Dave! That's how they found my SCLC, a total fluke! Thank Heavens! Glad they caught yours early! Dana
  7. Hi Dave, Welcome! Sorry you have the need to be here, but glad you found us! I was also dx'd with SCLC and I'm still kicking! Dana
  8. Sorry I can't be of more help but I never received PCI, even though I had SCLC. My ONC forgot to even discuss PCI with me until a year after my treatment. At that point I talked with an ONC RAD about the pros and cons and we decided not to do PCI at that time. As with everything "cancer" I have heard good/bad stories about PCI, it totally depends on the person. Good Luck! Dana

Sorry for the delay, but prayers on the way! Dana
  10. Tony & Sue, Welcome. This is a great place for questions, answers, laughing and crying. It's all good here. Hang in there cancer is not the "death sentence" it used to be, so don't give up hope! Dana

    Five Years Out

Yipppeeee!! That is great to hear! Thank you! Dana
  12. This question really had me thinking. I used to be little Ms. Sunshine, not anymore. I'm a lot more quite then I used to be. It is also very hard for me to relate to others problems, I get very impatient with some of my friends. They get all upset about something and I'm thinking "big deal at least it's not cancer". I'm much more of a loner now. I used to love to listen to live music, I considered myself a "groupy" on my favorite bands, hardly ever missed a concert. I don't do that anymore, the music is too painful to my ears, even with ear plugs. Am I grateful to be alive? Hell yes! I have started trying to do more activity and just recently joined Weight Watchers, I gained about 50 pounds on chemo. My hope is that if I physically feel better, I will mentally feel better. Man this sounds so negative! But that is where I'm at right now. Dana
  13. Hi Linda, Good for Mom! Her story is a miracle! I know this isn't the same but I was diagnosed with "pseudo" dementia. The neurologist believes it is stress/depression from the last few years. I know I get really frustrated! Continued good luck to Mom! Dana

Congratulations Dawn! I hope you and your fur babies celebrated!!!! Dana
  15. DV, Not sure if this will help, but does he like spicy/hot stuff? On t.v. a chef said that he used a little cheyanne pepper to help enhance the flavor of his Mom's food. You can also try all the non-sodium alternatives. I don't know how much sodium your Dad is allowed per day, but maybe let him have the ketchup, but you make the fries with a sodium substitute? I would use alot of garlic, cheyanne pepper, onion and any other spice you can think of. Good luck! Dana P.S. They are also saying that some spices are very good for fighting cancers!

  23. Hi Ben, I can't say what you should do, but if it were me and one of my doctors was treating my concerns like that, I would be getting a new doctor. Any concerns you have as a patient should be fully addressed and not by a pat on the head! Best of luck! Dana
