  1. There are many different types of cancer so please try to get as much information you can from his doctors. Prognosis and chemo side effects are also different for many.

Please browse our other forums and you'll find a world of information from our members.

I hope you are able to get more information and let us know how he is doing.

Best of luck to you and your family ((hugs))

  2. Erika,

I too am sorry to hear about your dad but also very glad you found us here.

My husband was also diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma and he too did not have any symptoms. No breathing problems or back pain at all. He just complained about feeling so tired. Routine x-rays of the lung showed pneumonia and later biopsy of the fluid gave us the cancer diagnosis.

He was also a smoker who had quit a few years prior to the diagnosis. BUT remember that it's not only smokers who get lung cancer. Anyone with lungs can get it.

Sounds like your dad has a loving family and that can mean so much during his illness.

Please browse our forums and feel free to post anything on your mind.....any questions or even how your feeling.

    ((hugs))

  3. Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great Christmas. I wonder how many of you are laying around the house eating all those great left overs? :)

I cooked for Russ's family yesterday. Had tons of food prepared. I tend to cook so much that even after sending others home with food we still have a lot! Bet our puppy Sampson is gonna love it too.

Today I'm not planning to do much. I think my feet still hurt from standing in the kitchen all day yesterday so I'm just going to play on the computer and maybe read on of the new books I have. It's so cold outside today so I don't want to go anyplace. It was supposed to snow last night but it appears to have avoided us for the time being.

Well, I hope to see a few other posts today? :)

  4. Well, I made it through the day. I was surrounded by Russ's family and tried my best not to let anyone notice it just didn't feel "right" for me. Couldn't go outside for a walk because it was only about 29 degrees :(

Christmas day was always special for my husband and I before he passed. I would spend the whole day cooking and cleaning. I used to go "all out" wanting everything to be perfect and he always tried to help me as much as he could. Funny cuz usually when men try to help they only get in the way don't they? ha ha

It's hard with Russ's family. I have no doubt they love each other, however, there are always voices being raised and someone always storms out the door mad. I'm just not used to that I guess.

Oh well, the day has passed and I'm still in one piece right? Hoping to spend New Years Eve with just "friends" that night :)

  5. It's Christmas Eve. It's the 4th Christmas without my husband. Not quite sure why, but this seems to be harder than the past years...... Maybe because I'm spending it with another family when I don't have one of my own anymore I suppose. Just hope I'm able to cry quietly without anyone knowing :(

  6. I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother :( The first thing I would suggest you do regarding medical coverage for her is talk to her doctor or one of the social workers in the hospital. There must be a way they can help her. No one should ever be turned away when they need medical care.

I hope you get some good news and that you will return here if you need us. If you have questions we will try our best to help and if you simply want to vent and cry.....we're here to listen as well.

Hugs and prayers for you and your Mom!

  7. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. But I'm happy you found Lungevity. Everyone here is just so wonderful and it's a safe place for you to come and talk about what's going on with your mom and your feelings as well. Feel free to rant and cry and ask any questions you want. We are here for you!

I came here in 2009 shortly after my husband was diagnosed with nsclc and everyone here helped me more than they will ever know. I too didn't have anyone close to me who truly understood so I understand how you feel.

    ((hugs))

  8. Hi everyone! Had a really busy morning so I'm late arriving here today. Weather report says snow on Thursday and since I'm afraid of driving in it I went to the grocery store and loaded up just in case :) After dragging everything inside and putting it away I made Tacos.....my favorite food!

Our pup Sampson is still having an issue with constipation so I picked up the "really expensive" food for him today. They are small cans and " Porterhouse Steak " flavored with extra fiber. Hope this helps!

Russ has been helping in son on his septic tank for a couple days. What a job ewwwwww Glad I'm not out there. This city girl stays inside and watches through the window. LOL

Well, I better get off here and clean up the mess I made in the kitchen. Hope everyone has a great day :)

  9. It's cold and raining here this morning. News report last night said sunshine and a high of 60.....yea right :(

Finally finished all my Christmas shopping. Ended up buying more than I had intended but then, don't we all? I did manage to buy myself some warm fuzzy socks which are coming in handy this morning.

Russ is out again today helping his son work on his septic system. Coming from California I don't understand the concept of how these systems work but it sure is a mess. They are out there in the rain digging the whole thing up and running new pipe lines. He's been sick and I doubt this weather is going to do any good. All I can offer is a pot of hot soup for when he gets home.

Our dog Sampson seems to be having issues of constipation. I read online about giving him a tsp of pure pumpkin in his food or some mineral oil but doesn't seem to be helping much. Going to keep a close eye on him today and if no change I'll take him to the vet tomorrow. Anyone else had this problem with their pets? He does eat a quality canned food with fiber now.....just don't know. He refuses to eat the hard food at all :(

Have a great day everyone :)

  10. Sounds like he has a loving family and that's so very important for him during this time.

You mentioned his coughing. My husband had that also and used a nebulizer machine with a medication called albuterol. Perhaps his doctor could give him this. I know it helped my husband a great deal plus I use it myself for asthma. It really helps!

Please keep us updated on your dad :)

  11. It seems to me that your father is very depressed which is certainly understandable.

My husband also had stage 4 and the chemo treatments were really hard on him physically. He too didn't want to do much because he was so sick. He also had angry outbursts which is normal.

Does he have other family members or friends that can come over and spend time with him? I would encourage you to try and keep him busy with people. I doubt that any physical activity is good for him considering his condition right now other than physical therapy at home or perhaps shorts walks because of his heavy coughing now.

Have you spoken to his doctor about this? I'm sure he could provide some guidance for you.

I'm sure other members here will follow and give you some great advice.

    Please keep us updated.....we care

  12. I just heard about this....anyone else have info on it?

Canadian researchers find a simple cure for cancer, but major pharmaceutical companies are not interested.

Researchers at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Canada have cured cancer last week, yet there is a little ripple in the news or in TV. It is a simple technique using very basic drug. The method employs dichloroacetate, which is currently used to treat metabolic disorders. So, there is no concern of side effects or about their long term effects.

This drug doesn't require a patent, so anyone can employ it widely and cheaply compared to the costly cancer drugs produced by major pharmaceutical companies.

Canadian scientists tested this dichloroacetate (DCA) on human's cells; it killed lung, breast and brain cancer cells and left the healthy cells alone. It was tested on Rats inflicted with severe tumors; their cells shrank when they were fed with water supplemented with DCA. The drug is widely available and the technique is easy to use, why the major drug companies are not involved? Or the Media interested in this find?

In human bodies there is a natural cancer fighting human cell, the mitochondria, but they need to be triggered to be effective. Scientists used to think that these mitochondria cells were damaged and thus ineffective against cancer. So they used to focus on glycolysis, which is less effective in curing cancer and more wasteful. The drug manufacturers focused on this glycolysis method to fight cancer. This DCA on the other hand doesn't rely on glycolysis instead on mitochondria; it triggers the mitochondria which in turn fights the cancer cells.

The side effect of this is it also reactivates a process called apoptosis. You see, mitochondria contain an all-too-important self-destruct button that can't be pressed in cancer cells. Without it, tumors grow larger as cells refuse to be extinguished. Fully functioning mitochondria, thanks to DCA, can once again die.

With glycolysis turned off, the body produces less lactic acid, so the bad tissue around cancer cells doesn't break down and seed new tumors.

Pharmaceutical companies are not investing in this research because DCA method cannot be patented, without a patent they can't make money, like they are doing now with their AIDS Patent. Since the pharmaceutical companies won't develop this, the article says other independent laboratories should start producing this drug and do more research to confirm all the above findings and produce drugs. All the groundwork can be done in collaboration with the Universities, who will be glad to assist in such research and can develop an effective drug for curing cancer.

  13. Seems like I'm not the only chocolate lover here :) I too would have eaten four of them. Right now I have a big box of chocolate truffles in the kitchen. Every time I walk in there I can here them calling my name......here Michelle....over here :)

Many people have said it's a good idea for the flu shot so I guess I'll get it taken care of this week. Don't really want to, but with my asthma I should.

Weather here last night was in the teens....didn't like it so much this morning when I had to take the dog outside to potty :( He takes "forever" too! Gotta smell every blade of grass there is before he can find the perfect spot. Meantime I'm standing there freezing my butt off!

  14. Happy to hear your Mom is trying to get some nourishment. That's really good news :)

As far as a transplant I don't really know for sure due to her staging on the lc, but I'm sure others will follow me who have more knowledge than I do.

Tell your mom to keep up the good work because there are people who "care".

  15. This time of year is so difficult. I am not going to pretend that its not.

So many of us are missing our love ones and trying our best to just make it through each day.

You are probably struggling to make the Holidays somewhat "normal" for your family while crumbling inside.

Yet, things are not "normal". Everyone in your family knows it.

Know that you are not alone, in feeling like the grinch. This is hard.

You are likely to be extra irritable, moody, you may even tell a few people to go fly a kite that you normally wouldn't.

Take some time just for yourself and take a deep breath. Remember that you are not alone! ((hugs))
