  1. I just thought I'd let you all know that the Melatonin worked. Oh boy, did it work! He snored so loud all night, I swear it shook the bed! I think I'll buy a lower dose next time, or have him take half a pill. Hopefully soon, he'll be able to sleep better on his own but for now, I do feel better about this than the ambien.
  2. Ever since my husband started having health problems that lead us to discover his lung cancer, he's had problems sleeping. It's been a month since his lobectomy, he is now off all pain meds but is unable to sleep without taking ambien. I imagine that this is common. I'm wondering how long people continue to take sleep aids. Thoughts on becoming addicted to them vs the desparate need for sleep? I'll also post this in the alternative/complimentry forum for suggestions on herbs ect that may help. Thanks

    What next?

My husband, Pat, had an upper right lobectomy one month ago. We were relieved to find out that his lymph nodes tested clean and his tumor was staged at 1A (even though it was about 3 cm?) The surgeon said that he is basically cured and there is no need for chemo. We'll meet with his primary doctor (the pulminary specialist) in a couple of weeks. He too had previously said that a stage 1A would not need any further treatment other than occaisonal xrays. Neither have suggested we meet with an oncologist. Something doesn't seem right. The more I read, the more I see cancers reoccuring. I will continue reading, researching and asking. I'm wondering what any of you think? Who out there has been fortunate to have been dx at this early stage and what did you do? I'll add that Pat is otherwise healthy, young and fit 43 year old father of three (and a wonderful husband.
  5. First time posting here. My name is Allison, I'm 30 years old and the mom of two little boys. My husband is 43 - we just confirmed thru a PET scan what we've been fearing for a couple of months now. He has a pretty large tumor in his upper right lobe that appears to be cancerous. He is scheduled for surgery in 8 days. We still don't know what stage he is. The pulminary specialist is gone for the next week and we are now scrambling to find 2nd and 3rd opinions prior to surgery next week. Seems like we've been getting the run around for this entire couple of months worth of tests. We've certainly learned the need of being your own advocate while dealing with doctors... The one positive thing we found today was that the PET scan didn't show any "hot" spots elsewhere. If it had, we'd have been on the first plane to Seattle (we're up in Alaska). Still considering that; depending on what we find in the next couple of days. We actually have some great physicians up here and top of the line facilities. But this last couple months is giving me doubts. I'm way to young to be a widow.... Anyone out there from our area? At least he is healthy is all other areas. After smoking for 26 years, two years ago he finally got serious about his health. Quit smoking, started running 5 days a week, healthy changes in his diet and overall life style. Yikes, this is NOT something we were prepared for. Sorry about this writing. I'm jumping all over the place just rambeling... Wondering if you guys could advise me about what to expect post surgery. How long will he stay in the hospital? How long will he be in bed? How long till he's back on his feet? I know these are all questions without definate answers, everyone response differently. Just looking for an idea of what to expect. Any suggestions for making this time bearable for the love of my life would be appreciated. Thank you all!
