    update on my dad

Jason, Two weeks is to long to have to wait for results when you are dealing with SCLC. I would call the docs office and tell them that you either want to talk to the doctor or you need to have a appointment ASAP. SCLC is a very fast moving cancer. When was the bone scan taken? My Mother had a bone scan which was negative and three weeks later when she was having her routine lung/abdomen CT scan bone mets showed up in her spine and pelvis. The doctor told us that the cancer had moved to the bone in only three weeks time. Please contact them and make them get you those results sooner. I will keep your father in my prayers. Susan M.

  7. Hi Greg, I also live outside the St. Louis area (Washington, MO on the opposite side of the Mississippi than you are) SLU is a great teaching hospital and I'm sure that you have the best of the best working for you. My mother has been battling recurrent SCLC for a while now. I do know that the cancer moves very fast so do not delay on any treatments. Her last chemo taxotere did seem to hold the cancer from growing for 2 months. I have faith that you will be able to find a clinical trial that will work for you. Take care of yourself and get some rest. Your body will need all the energy it can get to fight this terrible thing. I will keep you in my prayers. Lots of Hugs, Susan M.

    Update :(

Hello Everyone, I have not posted much lately as I have been trying to spend as much time with my mother as possible. Last week see had a blood transfusion and CT scans. Her scans showed that the current Chemo did not help and the doctor suggested Hospice. She sleeps most of the time. She is not having to much problem with pain as the pain meds are working well for her. We were all hoping that the blood transfusion would make her less weak but it almost seemed like the opposite happened. She is much more weak this week than last week prior to the blood. Her counts are good and the doctor tells us that her liver is so diseased that it is causing her to feel tired and weak. She is depressed and was not happy with the doctor when he recommended hospice. This is all very stressful and I am having trouble sleeping and concentrating on my work and family. Please keep my mother in your prayers. I continue to pray for everyone daily. God Bless, Susan M.
  9. Kathy, I'm so sorry. God Bless you and your family. Susan M.
  10. Fay, That sounds like a allergic reaction to the taxotere. My mom is taking taxotere and the doc told her that she may develop a skin rash. You may try oral Benadryl over the counter to ease the pain and itching and try a cortizone cream on the rash locally. I hope this helps. Take care!! Susan M.
  11. I have also gained almost a extra 10 pounds since my Mom has been sick. Hey Snowflake I just had Double Stuff Oreos tonight. (with orange halloween cream). I'm a stress eater. If I get upset about anything I eat. I also have no time to exercise since I am helping take care of my parents and raising two young kids at the same time. I know that I need to do something about this but I just don't have it in me right now. We will all just have to be chubby together for a while. Take care everyone I need to get a snack. Susan M.

  15. Thank you to everyone for your supportive works. Mom is not doing very well right now. She is having severe pain in her back and shoulders. I think her bone mets may be progressing. Don, I do not have alot of information about Dads cancer other than his PSA was 10 and his biopsy was positive for cancer. I told Dad that you are a 8 year prostrate cancer survivor and he smiled. Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers. I will keep you updated. Hugs, Susan M.
  16. Great job David P. I think you look great Keep up the good work!! Susan M.
  17. Hello everyone, Today my Dad was diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer. My mother is not doing very well right now so this is the last thing we needed. He is worried about being able to take care of Mom. We do not know how bad it is as he is scheduled for a Bone scan next week. Mom is very weak and her counts have been running low. She is still taking chemo but we are not sure if it is working. Dad takes such good care of her and this news is very hard on both of them. Please keep our family in your prayers as we can use all the help we can get. Thanks for listening, Susan M.
  18. Cindy, I'm so happy that you are doing well! Your surgery to remove the screws will not be a big deal and you will be up and around within 24 hours. I have worked in orthopedics for 20 years and we have alot of patients with "loose screws". Take care, Susan M.
