  1. I am so very sorry for your loss.
  2. My husband experienced shoulder and upper arm pain. As a house painter by trade he could no longer use his arm and. when he went to the doctor, they told him it was artheritis and that he also had COPD. they did a chest xray which showed a suspicious mass in his lung. He was sent for a ct and mri then a bone biopsy on his shoulder/arm which confirmed nsclc stage IV.
  3. I am so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your children.
  4. My husband is a stage IV and he is stable and doing very well. He is 16 months since diagnosis. As a matter of fact he is doing so good that he is going to go on a fishing trip for all of next week.
  5. I am totally shocked to come on today and see this sad news about Greg. Although I don't post very often, I feel as though I personally know each and everyone on here as if they were family. It just breaks my heart. I am so very sorry. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your children.
  6. Just a follow up: My husband had the Kyphoplasty treatment done on his spine on November 18th with just an overnight stay in the hospital. He has gained great relief from the pain he was having. Before the procedure he could not get comfortable in any position (sitting, standing, or laying down) and was miserable with pain. They repaired 4 vertebrea (T7-T10) with great success! He is a totally different person now and can again do some of the every day things in life that he wasn't able to. Wishing You all the best of health through the holiday seasons and beyond!!!!

  13. Erma Bombeck was a great life saver for me at a time in my life when everything seemed so hopeless. I was so depressed at the time, I couldn't even stand to be around myself. Anyways, somehow I ended up in the public library trying to find some inspiration and I came across her books. I checked out a couple and went home to read them. The stories she tells of her life and the way she saw it was amazing. They were so funny to me that I actually had to stop reading many times because of laughing so hard (and out loud) that I couldn't see through the tears in my eyes! My family looked at me like I was crazy! I found out she had passed in a tribute to her (I think by her husband) in one of the books. I would recommend her books to anyone who needs a lift!
  14. In March my husband was found to have spinal compression fractures (T8-T11) due to tumor involvement. He recieved 10 radiation treatments to his spine with little or no relief of pain. The doctors even upped his Oxy to 120mg 3Xday. He has been referred to a spine specialist who may preform Kyphoplasty on him. This said to be a minimally invasive fracture reduction treatment, with immediate relief of pain. I was just wondering if anyone on this board has had any experience with compression fractures and thier treatment, or Kyphoplasty itself. Any input will be greatly appreciated.
  15. Norme, I am very sorry to hear your news, and at the same time very glad that you have a team of doctors who are on your side. Please know that you and your Buddy are in my prayers. Just remember, behind every good mother hen, stands a much loved and cared for little chick!
  16. On Monday my husband got the same results. I too was wondering if it were a good thing to just wait and see. I am glad I came today and read your post and replies. It eases my mind to see that this really is GOOD NEWS! So enjoy your break, as we will ours. Best wishes!

    brain mets

Ray, My husband has had radiation treatment for 3 different mets since his diagnosis August 20th. of last year. He came through all of them with flying colors, and minimal side effects. The first was for his shoulder/arm, the second he had whole brain radiation, Third for his spine. His brain met is no longer there, and as for the other sites they seem to be under control. At this time he is in the midst of yet another round of radiation for lymph nodes in his chest (14 treatments, 8th one today). The hardest part of this treatment for us has been the traveling (45 minutes to and fro, its takes more time putting gas in the car then to get the treatments ). Best wishes to you and yours, Donna D.
  20. I don't know if this will help you but; My husband went from 240lbs. down to 170lbs. in a very short period of time. His onc. put him on megace which drastically increased his appetite and now he is back up to 194lbs. I would ask my doctor about this medicine.
  21. 14 days after my husbands radiation treatments began his hair started coming out in clumps. We shaved his head and he then began to wear hats, bandanas, and knit caps. I think his favorite hat is the one my mother sent him it had a built in ponytail
  22. Moffit Cancer Center is in Tampa. That is where my husband is being treated and has been since his diagnosis in August last year. We are very pleased with them so far. Best wishes to you and yours, and by the way the weather is wonderful here!
  23. Sorry to take so long to reply, but I am working off of an old computer that seems to have a mind of it's own . When my husband was hopitalized in December he did have x-rays and the reaction showed up on them looking like pnuemonia. They also did a ultrsound on his legs and a ct-angiogram to look for blood clots (no clots, thank goodness). After 3 days in the hospital they decided it was an allergic reaction and sent him home on oxygen. After 2 weeks he was back in the hospital with what they thought was pnuemonia and turned out to be a virus after x-rays and blood tests were taken. Now he seems to be doing very well. He goes for second round of chemo on Tuesday. The best of luck to you and your husband
  24. My husband had the same thing happen to him with Gemzar/Carboplatin in his second round. He also ended up with an alergic reaction to the Gemzar that had symptoms like pnuemonia but was called mono--something.they gave him a month off to recuperate and have since started him on Carboplatin/Taxol once every three weeks. He goes for his second round this Tuesday. They treated his infection with Diflucan. Donna D.
