Hello,
Please seek a second opinion.
My Mom's oncologist basically told her thae same thing when she was diagnosed with breast cancer (she was 77 at the time) but left it up to my Mom to decide if she would like to have chemo or not. My Mom opted for chemo and did fine. Although breast cancer is totally different from lung cancer, my point is that the decision to have treatment or not should be left up to the individual.
Once again, I urge you to get a second opinion.
Good luck and praying for guidance for your friend Bob.

Hello,
Wlecome to the family. You seem to have done well with your treatments. Please do a search on this site for PCI (Prophylactic Cranial Irradiation ) and WBR (whole brain radiation). These topics have been discussed extensively on this site and you might learn something that might help you with your decision. Meanwhile enjoy your well-deserved vacation!

Hi,
Yours is a typical reaction when learning of a loved one's cancer diagnosis. Being scared is normal but once the reality sinks in and you are able to distance yourself from the initial diagnosis then you will realize that there is hope and there are a lot of treatment options for your Dad. You will meet a lot of people here that have defied the odds that their doctors have given them. They are surviving and living their lives. You have come to the right place. There are a lot of support, sharing of info/knowledge, love and caring in this board.
I'd rather that you did not have to find us but now that you have found us,
welcome!

Hi Barbara,
Welcome to the family. I am glad that you have found us although sad that you have to seek us out.
As you continue to read on in this board and meet the wonderful people on this board you will see a lot of survivors that have defied statistics and their doctor's prognosis. You certainly came to the right place if you are looking for support, knowledge and/or just to vent your fears or frustrations. This disease can be beaten or put at bay until newer and more powerful treatments are discovered. Positive thinking is a key and also lots of research.
Please feel at home and make yourself comfortable. We are here for you.

Curtis,
Thank you so much for the update. It means so much to us to know that you and Katie are doing as well as Becky would have hoped. The more that I know about Becky the more my admiration for her grew. You yourself seem to be as strong as she was.
Good luck on your doctorate and please give Katie a big hug from me.
Best wishes,
Theresa
