  11. Hey all,

    Having a time of it, In March, I found myself in a Costa rican hospital unable to swallow, could'nt eat or drink, got back to the states and was in the hospital for the next 15 days. The tumor in my chest has been wreaking some havoc. It's closed off the esphoughages (sp) and theres a hole ( fistula) sp? that allows fluid to enter my only good lung. I'm presently hooked to a machine to get the nourshment I need, It Really sucks, I could use a good Texas steak. The plan is to reduce the tumor with chemo, and insert a sleeve so I can eat again. Be a few more weeks.

    The whole thing has had me pretty depressed and I really do thank you all

    for the cards and letters and Fay for the chickens.

    God bless and be well

  12. Hi all;

    And yea still in the hospital. Had some barium swallow tests today. Seems that I'm not getting food to the stomach. It goes either directly into the lung or is exaspirated. The overall plan right now is to get a feeding tube in as I have not eaten in a week now. :( Yea this does suck. Of course the million dollar question is why or better yet what can be done to correct. It seems from last weeks scans that the lympth nodes, ( suspect ones in center of chest) may be pressing against the esoghogus or connection. The node is suspect of being hot and its growthmay be causing the problem.

    Guess, I'm just looking for 2nd opionions on this, think I need to get a thoracic surgeon in on this. Rather, than either radiation or chemo. I would more than anything like not have this feeding tube a perminent thing. Or rather see if anyone has experienced anything similiar. As it stands, theres no set plan for this and I still have MRI' s coming up to see if brain mets were taken care of.

    any help would be appreciated. much on my plate right now!!

  13. Oh well, live and learn,

    Managed to take a turn for the worse and wound up with some severe breathing problems in Costa Rica, Sat. night was spent in the Hospital there and dx.ed with pneumonia. A bit scary, I must say.

    I managed to get a flight into JFK and got right to a Jersey Hospital on Mon. AM, Seems that, I'm aspirating fluid from the stomach into the lung causing the the quick onset of problems. Seeing, a gastric specialist next.

    I have also seen my pulmonologist, med. onc. and GP today, so gettin some answer's and guess things are just the way there suppost to be right now. I'm trying to work a lap top from the Hospital, and my skills at this are not the best but will try to get on chat tonight. No regrets, time to heal up for golf.

    God bless and be well!

  14. Hey T,

    Thanks for the concern, Yea, the last couple of weeks have been a bear :x , You know, fatigue, nauseas, no concentration, etc. but it's been gettin better.

    Dean's got it right though, I'm packing, actually done, and need to be at JFK, in NY at 2:00AM, real early flight, but that gets me to Costa Rica at 10; 00AM and I should be able to get my jeep, and make the Pacific coast by 1: 00 PM , Hopefully, I'll be in a hamock by 2:00 and screw everything else. I had scans done on Mon. but do not have the results yet, these were of the chest, abdomen and pelvis. I see my doc again on the 15th. I'm lettin go and lettin GOD right now!!! :):) ;

    I will be staying at the hotel Karahe ( www.karahe.com ), and I think either they have one or there is an internet cafe close by so I'll try to get online down there.

    Anyway, be well, God bless and still trying to enjoy the shi_ out of life!

  19. Hi TAnn,

    Glad your home and sorry your having such a time with it, :( ;

    I do sympathize with ya, I finished WBR and also had a time with it. Yea, the treatment can really be the pits but we really have no choice.

    But ya gotta focus on the tumor reduction, thats a real good thing! Know you'll be in my thoughts and prayers, be well and hang in there.

  21. Hi Francine,

    Good to hear from ya and boy I can certainly identify with ya, I'm now day 12 past WBR and it's been the same. Nausea, fatigue and yea at times can't get the head to move. I'm now off of the decadron and I'm told it should get better and it is but slowly. I also eat the small meals, lots of soups, jello's, cravings for sweets, and some really wierd stuff like king crab legs and lobster :roll: , I don't know, and just keep trying to eat something. I see my doc on Wed. for an update so I''ll ask questions.

    anyway, be well Francine and know your not alone, your in my prayers !

    God bless and stay well !

  22. Hi Tbone;

    Sorry I'm late on this!!, But I've been going through pretty much the same thing then some. , Was really happy to finish up the 20 th treatment and then hell broke lose. I got real sick to my stomach on that last day, and spent the next 4 days being sick and fatigued. Could hardly move at times and most of what I tried to eat came back up. I was told it would take 7 to 10 days to start feeling better. It 's now 12 days and yea feeling better but it's God auwful slow. Also, alot of problems staying focused on something, hav'nt been on the net as aresult, and I get a very sick feeling when I try to do things. I just started having some bleeding problems, I know not good, beginning yesterday I started spitting up a bit of blood. I see the doc on wed.but also could be digestive or sinus issue. I am now totally off the decadron but I do have liquid morphine which I use only occasionally now but it does help.

    Anyway T, it really does suck, but then for the grace of God we do carry on!! I keep tellin myself, 2 feet above the ground is a good thing and it''s good to be a SURVIVOR today!!!, Can get depressing at times.

    send me a PM if ya want details or have questions, but your not alone.

    God bless and be well!

  24. Hey T,

    Going through, almost the same thing, :? accept my appitites bin in the pits for 3 weeks now! I finished up WBR last Wed. and have been struggling since. Today' is better, Also, sinus issue's, headaches and very tired. I'm down to 1/2 decadron a day now and I was told this will help and was also told that after effects take 7 to 10 days. I was given chlorpheniramine for the sinus and was taking it at night. I have dreams at night of a thick juicy STEAK! :shock: ,

    anyway, wanted to let you know your not alone! Best to you, and good luck wth your lung treatment.
