  2. Hi Annie and welcome; my very best to you and Tim; This is some tough stuff your going through but it does sound like Tims on a fast track for a cure. I had my left lung removed just over two years ago and have been NED since. Life is not the same as I've slowed down a bit but thats OK. I'll say the recovery for me was a bit slow, but then I did manage to go hiking through the rainforests of Costa Rica 8 weeks after surgury. My wife says something about me being a determined, compulsive wacko when I remind her of it. ; Anyway, I started playing golf again 3 months after the operation and went back to work at 5 months post op. The point is cancer is not a death sentence and people can manage just fine with 1 lung. Sounds like you and Tim are doing all the right stuff, I'll keep you both in my prayers. God bless and be well Bobmc - NSCLC - stage IIB - left pneumonectomy - 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

  8. Hello Linda; So sorry you and your dad are going through this; but glad you are here! I was dx.'ed with squamous tpye NSCLC and had one node which was in the lung affected so I was a stage IIB. Like David, my left lung was removed and that was over two years ago. I was 50 years old when I was diagnosed and today I'm doing just fine. I'm not mountain biking like my buddy David is but I do enjoy a round of golf and by the way the family pic. was taking in the rainforests of Costa rica 8 weeks after my surgury. So, bottom line is people can and do survive lung cancer and you will find many wonderful people right here. So again, glad you found us and please let us know how your dad is doing. I will keep both you and your dad in my prayers. God bless and be welll Bobmc - NSCLC stage IIB - left pneumonectomy 5/2/01- "absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

  16. Hello Michele: my very best to you and your dad, and so sorry your going through this; but you are in the right place; I absolutely agree with Judy, your dad needs to be treated at a cancer center. So I'm glad your seeing an oncologist on 5/12; that's definitely a step in the right direction. My cancer was a stage IIB, and the sequence of events was first unresolved pneumonia from an x-ray, then a ct scan to detect the mass, then a bronchoscopy performed by a pulmonologist ( lung doc.) to determin if cancer and what type; mine was squamous type; then a referal to a thoracic surgeon, then a bunch of pre- op tests on lungs and heart, then a mediastinoscopy performed to check lymph nodes and stage the cancer, mine was operable, so he rolled me over and removed the left lung at the same time ( a bit out of the ordinary but I wanted it that way). I also got a second opinion from an oncologist at Sloan- Kettering just prior to surgery. From start to finish every thing took about 6 weeks. That's pretty quick but the sequence is similar to many who are on these boards. John gave you a good web site for tech. info.. It helped me to learn about the disease but yes it is frightening. Your not alone in what your going through and yes it is a rollercoaster ride, but there are survivors. MANY! God bless & be well Bobmc - NSCLC - stage IIB left pneumonectomy- 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today!"

  18. Today is a very good day!! ; 2 years ago I was just waking up & in recovery, minus the tumor and minus my left lung; WOW, So much has changed; and to boot!!!, my oncologist just gave me a call at home to tell me that my bone scans and x-rays were all GOOD; Moved my visits to every 2 months because of the pain in the back, and that's good cause he's thorough. Very grateful today!! Good to be alive and glad you are all here!! God bless you all and be well Bobmc - NSCLC stage IIB- left pneumonectomy 5/2/01 " absolutely insist on enjoying life today! and taking the family out tonight!

BUT, I am also being treated for bronchites and a long winter cold, - so could be nothing; But my doc scheduled me for a bone scan next week just to be sure DON'T YA JUST HATE THE BUTS!! anyway, grateful to be NED and to have a thorough doc.; and learning to live with the buts!!! Chest xray

Janet; Absolutely agree with Estrea; I get ct scans of the chest, brain and abdomen every 6 months along with chest x-rays and bloodwork. Doc says if somethings brewing we wanna catch it early. Yes, it's scary but just part of the disease. Hey Estrea - cute pic., there so great at that age, my wife wishs they would stay there, but then, they become teenagers - just kidding, you really are blessed!!
