Hi Becky; Yea, went through the same thing when they took my lung. Screwed up the eating and stomach somethng terrible. I was off of em in about 3 weeks though so it wasn't that bad. I'm going through the same thing now with the vicodin I'm on. I say screw the brocoli, I'm downin ROOTBEER FLOATS!! God bless and hang in there!! Hi Eileen; welcome back, glad to hear your doing fine!! Went through almost exactly the same thing that you are with the doc, and also the liver cysts My surgeon was also from Morristown, I had my pneumonectomy there. Excellent hospital and excellent surgeon but I went for follow-up care with a medical oncologist, just seems to make more sense to me, and it is working out just fine now. But, I did go through the turmoil of that decision as you are. I think your doing the right thing!! I 'm also presently being treated at Overlook Hospital, also affiliated with the Cancer Institute of NJ and Brain Institute of NJ and very happy with the care I'm recieving. But, again, decisions we need to make and feel good about. Ohh, and the liver cysts, my medical oncologist had ultrasounds done on them and confirmed the were calcified deposits. Hey Don, Glad you posted, was worried about you! Sounds like your in the healing stage and cancer free. IT DON'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THAT!!! The walking an exercise is great, keep it up!! Sorry to hear bout the bladder thing though, that just plain sucks. I agree and would also opt for the chemo, its short term only and gives a degree of comfort that'l help out down the road. Hi Denise; So sorry your mom is having a time of it. but glad she is up for the fight, thats certainly encouraging!!! I was on Vioxx, for 3 months then Celebrex for another 2 and now vicodin. The celebrex like others have said is for arthrictic pain and inflamation, as are the others and there is talk of helping to reduce the chance of lung cancer returning, although I don't think anythings been proven. The celebrex should help the pain, if not ask for something stronger. I also had, a bone scan, PET scan and MRI of the spine and brain. They are all a bit different. The bone scan will pick up arthritis, tumors etc but is not as sensitive as an MRI. The PET looks for cancer in a metabolic state and can usually confirm another scan. What I was told is that the MRI is the best for a look at the bones and brain and a closed MRI at that. Also, expensive. hope this helps and know your moms in my prayers. It could be dangerous!!! Anyway, glad things are gettin sorted out for ya, and the game plan is to get well for Dallas and play 18!! Hey TBONE!!! Yep, yers is bigger than mine!!!! I think everybody's kinda got it right, they do alot more these days and watch what ya read. I had my second treatment today, right behind ya !! I was also told at the onset that if the WBR didn't kill the buggers that we were gonna do other things also. I'm hoping someone opened that door for you, but if they ddin't you may want to ask. Stereotactic Radeosurgery is the other option. It's a high focus radiation surgery that zaps the tumor but is predicated on tumor size and amounts. So praying for shrinkage. There are also other options, such as chemo so hang in there and try not to think too much. I know easier said than done. Enjoy the wekend off!!! Hello Linda, Just wanted to join the ladies in welcoming you to our wonderful group here. Yes, such a terrible and dreadful disease but we don't have to go through it alone!! And as for the statistics , SCREW EM!! Many us feel there outdated and hav'nt kept up with technology anyway, and besides only God knows when our times up. Don't dwell on it, it's really pointless. Iv'e found the best thing I can do is to stay informed, get second opinions, try to be treated at a cancer center by specialists and be an advocate for my own health. I can see from your questions on nutrition that your doing the same.
