I am surprised a lot of people would not use their celebrity to advocate more!!! Hey when i am famous you bet your butt I will be the biggest advocate!

haha yes the pinch test IS good. I remember i told my mom to do that and he was laying down with his eyes closed and my mom pinched his skin he woke up and was all confused...i started laughing cause I didn't mean for her to do it THAT second. BUT yes Katie is very right you can not usually drink and replace what is being taken out of you. Mention it to the dr's when she goes in for chemo or an appointment if there was a way she could go in every so often for some fluids. The dehydration can cause problems that freak people out and make them believe that the cancer is doing it...when in actuality if any of us were dehydrated our bodies would be doing the same thing!

yeah unfortunately the chemo kicks some major butt, BUT think of it as it is kicking the cancers butt and it is just mad at your mom right now for ruining it's fun! PLEASE make sure she gets enough liquids and if not see if you can take her in for an IV cause dehydration is HUGE is how she will feel.

I am kind of like you in the beliefs way. I am a roman cathlolic YET i always open myself to reading up on positive spiritual things. I think Hell Madonna looks better than most 20 year olds and she into that stuff....something must be goign on good there...hehe

Yes this is a great site for positive support!!! My dad is also 58 and stage IV. It had been difficult but being here has honestly made it so much easier!!!

Hello and welcome. My dad has had radiation and chemo but his radiation is for his bones not his chest. He is stage IV where else is it?

Thank you don! I hated it growing up. I waited every day for that lady on romper room (not sure if it was just a boston thing) to say my damn name in her mirror...NOPE!!! no stickers, pencils, license plates for my bike, magnets, wall hangings..nothing! My sisters Kim (year older) sandy (year and a day younger..yup i am born Dec. 1st she is Dec 2nd) had some normal names well used by marketing to sell stuff...me nope. I liked to be different so as i got a bit older i could care less. Now, i like having a name not everyone has! I get so excited when it is used in a movie and or show, i probably could name them for you too...haha since it is not used that often...i know someone metioned Tuesday at maury's...the authors wife's name was janine...and spelled the same way..yeah...i think i did a little dance while reading it cause i was like that right...Janine rocks. haha

YES lots of fluids and the leg pain is "normal" again using the term lightly but it can be caused by the chemo! again taxol was mentioned and i know my dad's leg pain would increase after chemo. Please tell her to keep a chin up, it is going to be hard but her focusing positively i think will benefit her!!!

What is her schedule. my dad was on it for about 2 weeks. he was on carbo/taxol and it was doing good but a bit strong for him so they did taxotere. he is going to try Iressa (if all works out with his stay in the hospital) he was just i think sick of being poked and stuff

Thank you laurie!!!! You are so sweet and right back at you! So i guess with the Iressa he will not be doing chemo, but the option i guess is there for him i guess if he ever wants to go back. Does anyone know you can go back to chemo if you go off Iressa right?

I think yeah the lung dr. should have suggested and oncologist. once my dad was getting his biopsy he asked my dad to contact his old oncologist (who retired) to let him know what was going on and just in case. I am glad you took some initiative and made some calls!! Biggest thing you can do right now and be an advocate for your dad to get the best care he can. Looking forward to chit chatting with you! Anything you need let us know.

Well my dad is going to go on Iressa. He is continuing with radiation and he did NOT put a halt to chemo. he is just i think going to take a break for a couple of weeks!! I told him to continue going on here cause it will be good for him to see and talk to other people who are going thru the same thing he is and he can ask questions if he feels weird about something. Thank you all again!!!
This woman at work too who is a breast cancer survivor just gave me a pocket angel to give to me or my dad!! How sweet!!!
