    Question

I believe the cancer came from a lession he has on his face only a couple inches away. But the scary part is that the lession he has on his face is on the other side of the face next to the unaffected eye.
  2. Ginny, I'm Very sorry, I'm sure he will be deeply missed.
  3. That’s odd maybe you should look around at other doctors. Since your CT Scan's came back clear no mets to other organs you can eliminate Stage 4. Sounds to me like they got it early probably stage 2A or B

    Question

I know this is a Lung Cancer Forum but I thought maybe someone could help. My mother just passed away from lung cancer a couple of months ago and just when the dust started to settle now the doctors are telling us that my father has Melanoma Skin cancer that has spread to his eye and its very large. I think its called Intraovular Melanoma, We know he is going to loose his eye but there isn't much more that we have been told. So my question is since his cancer is skin cancer that has spread to his eye does this eliminate the possibilities of his cancer being localized, would this mean its Metastasizing. Does anyone have any information.
  5. Hello Leona, Everywhere you read it says that taking both chemo and radiation together is becoming more and more common because it works that much harder. But like they say no pain no gain and it may be hard but the final reward may be all worth it, and like a few people mentioned Some people react completely different, everyone actually reacts different they have come a long way, you may be pleasantly surprised. Besides the doctors wouldn't offer you it if they didn't think you are strong enough to handle it so you should feel good about being given those options. Good luck and keep praying I will be.
  6. Elaine I think its great you would think about that and I hope you will go through with it I'm sure it would mean a lot to them. And yes it will be sad for them but more on the net positive side. My mother never left us any literature or anything like that but I know if she did me, my brother and my sister would have loved it. We are also all in our twenties and are dealing really well with it all because we knew how much she loved us just by how hard she fought to stay alive, she would have done anything to spend another day with us and her 5 grandchildren.

    please help me

Linda I'm sorry to hear your father is weak, I pray that the Iressa will work. Does you father have any pain in his shoulder or numbness in the arms. Because my mother also was very weak in her one leg and one arm(numb) both on the same side. The doctors couldn't figure out why and they thought for a while it was because of the pills she was on Dexasone, Activan and Codein, But later discovered that it was because the cancer had made its way to her spine and worked its way around the vertabrae and was squeezing it so it was interupting the signal to the brain, So definetly get the doctor to take a second or third look because they sometimes miss things they did in my mothers case and once they find the problem they can take care of it because your father will need his strength. Your father sounds like a very strong man, strong enough to beat this never loose hope because when you do so will your father. Your fathers story seems very simular to mine and with enough hope and enough prayer your father can overcome this obsticle. Good luck me and my family are praying for you.
  8. Grumpy-One-Lung I understand what your saying, actually maybe I don't because I've never had cancer or ever had to go through treatment so maybe its easy for me to say but I believe that everyone goes through the same amount of pain when they die. If you get hit by a car and don't even see it coming then there would be no pain for you but you family will have lots of questions and will mourn so they will be the ones to absorb all the pain that you didn't have, Or on the other hand if you are fighting a disease and it goes on for years or months with lots of pain it makes it a lot easier for the family because they just want the pain to stop and you are the one absorbing the pain but in the end the same amount of pain will be present. So what it comes down to is if you believe in my theory who would you rather feel the pain. And you just never know there are many people out there that overcome this. So If you have made up your mind than thats fine but think of everyone else to, everyday makes a difference, if my mother who lost her battle to lung cancer would have gave up she wouldn't have been present for my wedding, Which would have made it a lot harder on me to except but because she fought so brave and so strong everyone who loved her felt a little less pain. So never give up there is possibility of quality and quantity but its not something that comes easily its something you and your family have to fight for. But good luck in any decision you make I'll be praying for you. "where there is a Will there's a way" Mark

    What next?

Great news on the successful surgery, But some times you have to take things in your own hands don't always trust the doctors go get a second opinion it can't hurt. But from what they are saying it sounds accurate because the main reason you get cancer or the main reason it re-occurs is from a weak immune system and radiation and chemo actually poison your body in order to kill the cancer, the bad cells along with some good cells. So the best advice for your husband would probably be to live life and try to forget about the cancer he once had because more then likely it won't return, but eat a lot of Tomatoes they are suppose to prevent lung cancer from forming. 10. My mother 53years old was diagnosed with NSCLC stage 4 Adeno 2 months ago with brain mets 8 of them, liver mets ,kidney mets, mets to her spine and possible bone mets. Before they could do anything to help her lung they said they had to get her brain mets taken care of first. So we did that she went for Whole brain radiation 1 1/2 months ago. The doctor there said they might be able to get a couple of them but there will always be some remaining so they were just trying to buy her some time because she wanted to be at my wedding September 18th 2004 the doctor didn't think it would be likely she would be there but we didn't loose hope. After receiving 5 doses of the WBRT she seemed to be doing great with minor nausia. A couple of days later she didn't seem to be as with it as she always was but that was the least of our worries, she was starting to feel numb in the arm and leg and started to really weaken. So we brought her to the hospital and the doctor told us in private that the radiation probably didn't work and she would die soon very soon in days. So my mom's wish from the beginnig was to be healthy for my wedding in September which became out of the question. So me and my family started planning my wedding for the next day May 15th we all came together and did everything we could to make my mothers dream come true we asked if she could attend the wedding or just the church part and the doctors didn't see that as a problem her health wasn't too bad its just they thought her brain would soon shut down. On May 15th my mothers breathing got really bad and she had to be put on oxygen so now we weren't sure she would make it a all to the wedding or even worse make it through the night, but I was ready to have the wedding in the hospital with my now wife who supported me through all of this and was willing to give up here dream wedding all for me and my family and I'll never forget that. Anyways by noon I was a wreck hearing this news and didn't think it would be possible to plan a wedding with my mother dying, So everything was looking down I really started to doubt God I kept asking him for favors and I was always shut down with more bad news 2 months ago my mother was perfectly fine now she is dying painfully how could I believe, No God could do this to such a wonderful lady. But I still prayed that she could at least witness my wedding. And then the good news came with all the doctors doubting her with all stats against her a 1 in 2 million chance the doctor came in and said thoses words I'll never forget Your Cat scan is clear you have no more brain mets and everything looks good we will probably be able to release you to go to your Son's wedding I tell you I will never doubt God again. Me and my family were amazed we went crazy and because of this news everything for the wedding came together my family, the best family in the world all came together and made a wedding happen all in less then 24hrs, the food, the drinks, the DJ, the Cake, My wife's dress (that she looked amazing in) all the Tuxes getting family from all over to drop their plans and come to our wedding. It was honestly unbelievable. Later that day after everything seemed to be taken care of we got a bit more bad new my mother had developed Pneumonia probably from the meds the doctors put her back on "Dexazone" because they assumed the radiation didn't work, but after the good news we heard that morning we knew she could beat that but the doctors wouldn't let her leave the hospital so we did the whole church thing with the family's minus my mother and father but like I said before, we hopped in my car and me my new wife and the minister all went to the hospital were we got married again so she could see it she was thrilled, it made her day, she actually smiled again not one of the fake smiles she would do to help relieve us from knowing she was in pain but an actual smile again, she was always so un selfish hidding her pain to make us more comfortable, but because of that smile our wedding was perfect my mother was at the hospital with the new positive news the first time we received positive news yet, the wedding was going great my mother got what she wished for everything was great. Unfortunately she couldn't make it to the reception hall but the fact that she was alive to witness my wedding was enough. The wedding was all done at 3:00 in the morning the last person left at that time we closed off the night with the Song stairway to heaven. At exactly 3:08 Heaven received a new angel my mother the strongest women alive. To me this story is worthy to be in the Good News section because I know now how important family is and that doctors don't know it all and nobody should ever give up because my mother didn't and it made it a lot easier on us all, if she would have she wouldn't have seen me get married and I would have had a much harder time dealing with this all. But most importantly she helped me believe there is a higher power out there and he only seems to take the best. So Mom I love you and Thanks for everything
