  1. Know that you are in my prayers also. Sue
  2. Wow, that is wonderful news . I'm really happy for you. When you get the chance, I hope you can come back and further tell us about these medications your mom is taking. That is such an incredible story of stage IV nsclc and 90% reduction.. Please dont' keep this information to yourself. We want to "kick butt " too .. lol God Bless you sue
  3. Cappy, Mike has gone through a series of 10 radiation treatments on 2 separate occassions. The first time around , he had absolutely no side effects. This last time around, after having had many other treatments of chemo etc, he had burning of the esophagus, stomach upset etc., but the doc gave him meds to help with both . The meds helped and the side effects were short lived. Our best to you. sue
  4. Keeping you in my prayers. Hope to hear much better news from you soon. God Bless sue
  5. Carrie, Mike was put on Navelbine just two weeks ago. He is taking it alone. His onc . is putting him on it at this time because it is known to be a little milder. He had recently been through quite a bit with Taxotere and then radiation and he was still suffering burning from the radiation. He's giving him a chance to recoup a bit. So far he is doing rather well with it. He seems to have a lot more energy than before. Our best to you. sue
  6. Hi Lucie and Don, I don't often post, but I want you to know that reading about Lucie's progress always gives me a good feeling. Don , you and Lucie seem to always dwell on the positive. I also want to add that warmth and caring for others radiates from your posts. I'm so glad to hear that Lucie is tolerating her chemo well at this point and it is always good to know that if this doesn't work you have a back up. Every case of cancer is so different, but my husband Mike seems to be following in your footsteps for treatment these days. Taxotere was working for a while, but it quit for him. He is now on Navelbine... 2 treatments so far and tolerating it well. His onc. also said we will keep Alimta in mind as an option . He laughed as we left and told us our reading assignments were to read about Navelbine and Alimta. My best to Lucie. Will keep monitoring her progress. God Bless you both. Sue
  7. Bill, As has been mentioned here , vena cava syndrom will cause swelling in the face. Having just witnessed this in my husband's case, I can tell you what happened. It seemed like it was almost over night that his face became very swollen, he became reddish in the face(flushing), the jugular vein in his neck protruded, his arms and hands were very swollen, plus he had purplish marks across the top of the abdomen. A scan was done to determine the cause and it was determined it was all due to pressure on the superior vena cava . To correct this condition, a stent was put in the vein and 10 radiation treatments followed to shrink the tumor. Just putting in the stent alone, relieved the symptoms. By that evening his face and arms were nearly back to normal. I'm not sure what you are looking for in particular, but I hope this helps. sue
  8. My husband quit just before his original dignosis in 2001. He quit cold turkey and has never looked back. His surgeon and pumonologist both told him that it was imperative to quit to aid in healing. I didn't quit for another 2 years, when my own breathing wasn't as good, and Iwas diagnosed with COPD , emphysema. I went to www.whyquit.com and I can tell you that the education and support that I received there made all the difference in the world. God Bless you. sue

  15. Hi Jennifer, I just wanted to say that my husband is currently on Taxotere and has been since the beginning of April. After 3 treatments there was shrinkage in all tumors-that's the lung, lymph nodes, left adrenal gland and 2 nodules in his left lung were smaller. He has had 2 more treatments and will have a 3rd on August 9th , followed by scans. He has tolerated it quite well so far, but it does make him tired. The doctor told me to paint his fingernails and toenails with nail hardener. He said the nails can become brittle and come out. We were also told his skin around the nails may become dry and to use a good lotion containing aloe to help. None of these things have happened , but we are prepared. Our best to you. God Bless you. sue

  18. Tess, I am so sorry to hear that Rob is having so much pain. Hopefully, home care will be able to help you with pain management. My heart goes out to you. Please take comfort in knowing that my husband and I have you and Rob in our prayers, as well. sue
  19. Tess, You and Rob have been in my thoughts. I am so sorry to hear that Rob is suffering like he is. I'm thinking about the fact that he told his doctor he is doing pretty good right now. At that point in time , he was feeling "pretty good", but later when he wasn't feeling so well. Perhaps, he should call and tell them that the pain is unbearable. Hopefully , there is something else that can be done for pain management. I know my husband tends to say he is better than he is at the doctor also. I always go in with him. He likes it that way because I can sometimes remember to tell the doctor things he forgets. It's also good to have two of us remembering what the doctor said. 2 heads are better than 1. I'm not familiar with Iressa or the use of antidepressents, but I would opt for something to manage the pain. God Bless you both . Know that Mike and I are praying hard for you. sue
  20. Cheryl and Jack, Want you to know that my prayers are sent to you , as well. God Bless you both sue

  22. Beth, Know that our prayers are with you also. sue
  23. Kelly, I've expressed my sympathy to you at the Freedom board, but I wanted to post here as well. Kim was an amazing and unselfish woman. She gave so much of herself to so many. The tribute and expressions of sympathy at www.whyquit.com are testament to that. Last I looked, over 100 people had signed that board. Know that Kim lives on in our hearts and many of us have a lot to thank her for. We not only thank her, but you Kelly. It was your undying love of your sister that has kept her mission and her goal alive for us all. . I hope to see you continue posting here and at Freedom. I know the memories are painful, but I'm sure you can help so many people deal with their physical and emotional challenges, as well as, continue to keep Kim's mission alive. God Bless you. sue
  24. I would just like to thank everyone for your warm welcome. It truly helps to be surrounded by others that understand the same emotional and physical challenges that you and the ones you love are having to face. Among the replies , I see friends old and new. Tess and Kelly are my Freedom (www.whyquit.com) friends as well. Kelly, seeing your post here touches my heart and I want you to know that your sister Kim left footprints on my heart that will last forever. She was such a brave a generous person. The two of you are on my mind, as we go through our own battle. I've been reading many of your stories and replies. Such a brave bunch you all seem to be. Becky, I will remember that we are "warriors" . Looking forward to joining in with the group. Again, thank you to all and God Bless each and every one of you. sue
  25. Hello everyone, My husband is the one diagnosed with cancer , but I truly feel that we are both victims and it is "our battle". Yes, "battle", we will continue to fight it with mega doses of prayer, positive thoughts and every positive resource available to us. His battle began in April of 2001 with losing his right lung and is recurrent now , as of January 2004 diagnosis. It came back in the stump to the right lung, the lymph nodes and spread to the adrenal gland on the left side. I was referred here by Tess, who is a member of this group. Thank you Tess for reaching out and sharing your kind heart, your bravery and this group of compassionate people with us. She and I also belong to whyquit.com which is a smoking cessation site that is second to none. I am not sure what to say at this point, as I am the newbie here, but I can relate to your stories and my heart goes out to all of you. I look forward to sharing all the emotions, challenges, and results of our efforts with all of you. God Bless you all!!! Sue
