  1. I am so sorry-last I checked she was doing well. PLEASE keep this in mind. I know because I am on the other end just like your mom. I want nothing but the best for my kids. I am sure she wants you to get your studies done and concentrate. I wish mine had gone onto college! She must be so proud. Cindy
  2. I too had a cxr done in Nov of 2000 for pneumonia. In Feb 2001 I was diagnosed with extensive sclc. I got the xray and had it checked-really nothing to mention was there. (it still showed slight pnuemonia??maybe the beginnigs of the sclc?? who knows) sclc grows REALLY FAST!! Do not waist time trying to find someone to blame this on. Because there really is not one thing. Most here can tell you it is normal to be angry at first. Remember you need to be with your dad and make the best of the time you have. I thought I would only have a yr or so, well that has been almost 6 yrs ago. Cindy
  3. The chemo WILL run you down. I am one who was working 12 hr shifts in the ER one day and 1 week later had my first chemo treatment. I never was able to return to the 12 hr shifts, I did do 6 hr ones a few yrs later then the Ca came back and the second yr of chemo etc made my decision not to work again. Hang on and keep telling her about those grandkids!! I have 2 married now and I keep saying i want gtandkids-nothing yet!! Cindy

    UNSELFISH

All I can say is they have become friends!! They are amazing people who have shared so much of themselves thru this site. God has a purpose for everything and this site is a wonderful example of how thru the devastating loss of her dad others have found support thru this site. Katie and Rick-Thanks again, Cindy
  5. Just a quick note to say all is fine with me. My daughters wedding was 12-2 and for the last few months I have felt like a chicken without a head!! I will write more later, but just wanted to say I check in but have not had time to write. Hope you all are getting ready for Christmas. I know this can be a VERY stressful time of the year, esp having to deal with sclc on top of the season. I will write a longer update on the general forum. In 2 months it will have been 6 yrs since my diag. At this time I am now at 3 yrs and 5 months in remission! Cindy

    My mother

It has been 12 yrs since my mom died of nsclc. I still remember VIVIDLY all the moments we had, I am glad to say I smile now instead of crying. She was my best friend and she is with me still-I see her in the mirror and in the grandkids,I pray you too will get to this feeling soon. Cindy
  7. I am not the computer person-Maybe I can get hubby to put them on here for me-Thanks for all the Happys!! Love you all-Cindy
  8. Dar-I am not sure at what point your mom is at. Would Hospice be available?? They are so good with emotional support, pain control and just advice- Prayers said for you all!! Cindy

One question-Have they discussed radiation to that site?? It helps to shrink the cancer quickly. I know the chemo works fast on sc but with it being around the aorta I would think they might try the radiation just to hasten the shrinkage-Just a question-Cindy
  10. Don is right. Anytime it has spread outside of the orig location it can pop up anywhere. Are they treating her? Cindy
  11. I choose not to have the PCI done. I talked with the Dr and a few who had had it done. I decided not to. If I had mets to the brain THEN I would of course have it done Everybody must make their own decision. Cindy
  12. Well the kids pulled it off-My surprise party-tho I knew most of the particulars about it (moms know everything!) and who would be there They THOUGHT I was totally surprised. They had my son from NC fly in and my sis and her kids fly in from UT. Then the fellowship hall at church was decorated with all kinds of fun things. The open house went on for more than 3 hrs! What a blast. They took alot of my old photos and had them blown up and put all over the place. I got a red hat and a red and purple boa!! I am official now-I can be in one of the red chapters! This coming Feb will be 6 yrs for me. This last Aug made it 3 yrs since my last chemo!! The last Dr visit was all good and he now said I can start coming every 4 mos instead of every 3 months. God has been so good to me and I hope I can continue to fullfil what ever it is I am to be doing here for Him. I have turned this over to Him and will be happy with what I have and where I am at this point in my life. I know that I am a stronger person since the diag because I have had to let Him take over for me-I can not control!!! everything-I have a bad habit of that Thanks to all who have supported me thru this and I pray one day we will be able to say "that cancer vaccine really stings!" Cindy
  13. I got neupogen (sp)-Very similar injections-but cheaper. Everytime my wbc got low. Good luck Cindy
  14. No I have not seen that-look below to see what my regimine was Cindy

    Port Pain?

You need to let the Dr know about this. Mine was put in on a Fri and chemo started on Mon using it. I have never had 'pain' from it in almost 6 yrs-Cindy
  16. You all are great!!! I think (I know) the kids have a special surprise open house planned for the 14th----just to throw me off. My sister from Utah and my son from NC will be here-I am not suppose to know that either-HA! They still can not pull one over on me Cindy
  17. I have never heard of this-not to say it is not true-I would ask the nurses again and if no answer call the Dr to ease your mind. Cindy

    Almost 50!!!!

Almost 50!!!! At age 44 I was diagnosed and as we all know with extensive sclc they don't give you much time. WELL, I am here to say I am going to hit the big 5-0! I saw the Dr Fri and scans were all still NED. Come back in 4 months-not the reg. 3 months. God is so good. I will be on these boards when I am 60 to celebrate that one too. OH YEAH! My birthday happens to fall on Fri the 13th this year-how ironic Cindy

I hate it that she only made it one month. Not enough time to adjust to EVEN having it So young!
  20. I applied 1 month after I realized I could not work, it was approved very quickly BUT I had that 6 month wait from the last date I worked. I did not get any back pay because you are right there is Fed. law stating you must not be able to work for 6 months to actually be able to collect disability. I guess they want to make sure the cancer does not just 'disappear'!! Cindy
  21. Sorry it took me so long to post! I was diag in 2/01 with exten. sclc. I had 1 relapse in 2/03 and just saw the Dr Fri and all scans are clear. In just a few months it will have been 6 yrs since that day. I have seen my youngest start driving, dating and go to college, my middle one is getting married Dec. 2!!! My oldest moved away and was married and doing very well. I am getting ready to celebrate my BIG 50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES, it was worth it and if I relapse again I will go thru it all again. Good luck, Cindy
  22. I will try to write more later-I have had a relapse one time in 2003. Read below to see my treatments- Have Faith, Cindy
  23. The time after treatment is as stressful as treatment time. Mine was extensive and found in 2/2001 remission during 2002, relapsed in 2003 but only 1 place this time. Aug 2003 last treatment and I am still in remission. There is always hope-I just live between scans and keep on going- Good luck, Cindy
  24. I am so sorry about this-You are in my prayers Cindy
  25. Deb-I am so sorry-I just got back online today to see this and a few others, Love anmd prayers Cindy
