MurielK. How are YOU?

Connie, Thanks for asking! I did post a little about the move etc. after my computer was set up here. (At least I thought I did) Obviously not enough, since you asked. I'm doing ok. Recovery is a lot slower this time. I'm still short of breathe if I walk very fast (faster than slow) and I'm still very tired. I am strong enough to shop for family room furniture, however. The move was ok. On Dec 16th I took the auto train to Orlando with our oldest son (he didn't think I was ready to travel alone). Another son and friend brought the dogs down a couple weeks before that. And my husband flew to Orlando, arriving hours before the dogs. It all worked out, although my husband was in the hospital for the 3 days before the movers came to pack and load the house in VA. He's fine now.

So we arrived here ok, as did our belongings. Had a few minor complications - Sears promised 3 different delivery dates for laundry equipment before getting the stuff here - a long wait. The lights in the house dimmed and then became very bright just before anything drew any power. Power Co. came today and found a damaged something in the neighbors yard (5 - 6 under it). So that's fine now.

The Onc is ok. Didn't seem to know what to do about my new primary. Said he'd never seen that before! Took it (the situation) to the tumor board and they didn't have any for sure solutions either. (I posted this in the "Ask the Expert Section - Std. Tx). I'll probably have chemo (gemzar and cisplatin, I think). He wants me to see a pulmonary specialist first (do that on this Thurs). Then I see the Onc again next Wed. My husband thinks I should be stronger before I start chemo again, as it really wiped me out last time.

I'm getting the sense that the new Onc doesn't see quite as bright a future as we thought we had before the new tumor. He's not being pessimistic or non-supportive. Just honest - I asked; he answered. He thinks it will probably return again. [Which makes me wonder why he seemed less supportive of chemo at first.] Unless he thinks the outcome will be the same either way. Questions to ask next Wed.

Not posting much - altho I do browse a lot - cuz I just haven't got the energy to create a meaningful response or comment. I'm getting better tho.

I don't know when I'm going to get to Mpls. My friend in StP is doing pretty good now and I'm in no shape to travel up there. Probably after I finish chemo. Still planning to get together w/ the MN people when I'm there.

Hi Muriel. Welcome to the sunny (but cold) Sunshine State. Hope you are getting all settled in. I don't make it to Orlando often but would love to meet you the next time I visit my sons that live there. I'm about an hour and a half east of you. So, what oncologist did you settle on? Are you going to MD Anderson? If so, maybe you could see Dr. Omar Kayaleh. He was Dennis's doctor and in addition to being an excellent doctor he is also an extremely knic and caring man. Everyone at Anderson refers to him as the "Big Teddy Bear."

Ann, I love FL - even without sun today. I'm going to Dr. Zehngebot in Winter Park. The guy you had recommended is the leader of the Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Cancers Specialty Sections at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. (According to the website.) Dr. Z is listed in the Orlando Mag.s top 100 or whatever docs and came recommended by someone we know in the DC area. I like him. I 'd love to meet you - for lunch? I'll pm my phone number.

Glad you like your doctor. I am wondering if the info about Kayaleh was a misprint. I know he handles a a lot of lung cancer patients. I will try and give you a call tommorrow!!!!!

Muriel,

How great to hear from you.....I know you've got a lot going on right now, no wonder you're tired....

I had cisplatin/gemzar, it wasn't so bad. PM me if you want some details on how it went with me.

Keep on going, that's all we can do. How are those pooches?

Cindy
