Hey David,

Remember me...I am not that far away from you, just a hop skip and a jump over to the mainland!!! Let me know where I can send my cheque and when the ride is....if I am able to I will try and make it to whistler to see ya, considering its only a two hour drive for me.

Best of luck.

Gina. I was at a race last year and saw a two person husband and wife team where the husband actually DID have his wife hooked up to a tow rope pulling her up the hill!!

Yes Tracy, I do remember you. Has your dad started treatments yet? I recall things were happening fairly slowly for you guys. Has the tumor shrunk? I hope so. When I was at UBC I lived in Burnaby, North and West Van, and then right beside the Sylvia Hotel in the old Huntington, before it was torn down - if I were single, I'd move right back in a flash. What part of Van do you live in? And I'll keep you posted on the race. The 12 hr qualifying race is at Hemlock Valley ski resort Aug.16. and the 24hrs is Aug.30 & 31 at the upper Blackcomb parking lot. I'll also let you know when I'm comming over next, I'd like to meet your dad. Take care Tracy.

And David C.

What kind of jokes would there be about West Virginia? I certainly have never heard any.

That's very exciting news. I'm sure you'll keep us posted with how things are going. We'll be awaiting your updates.

Don't think we've met but I'm a fellow British Columbian as well. I live in Abbotsford. I'm originally from New York and am currently spending a lot of time here with my Dad who has had a recurrance of l.c. with mets to bones. I do miss BC and am looking forward to coming back for a week to see my family, then back to NY ... I'm the chauffeur and cook while my Dad undergoes his chemo.

I have one daughter temporarily residing in Vict. while she's at her summer job working in the Parliament. It'll be back to school for her in Sept at McGill. My other daughter is a triathlete but her preferred sport is mountain biking. She'll be in UBC's triathlon on Sept 1st which I'll miss since I'll be here.:cry: So I know all about you athletes and injuries. (you all have them don't you?) I also have a couple of boys, 1 at UBC and one who'll be entering Grade 12. So that's me-- by the way, surprisingly I'm not finding the US health as quick as I thought I would and I'm disappointed by that. There is certainly more waiting for specialists and scans... than I thought there'd be. I'm fairly sure it is still faster than our Canadian system but not what I had hoped for.

Take care David and best of luck with your ride.

Gail

I think it's wonderful that you escaped this dreadful disease for as long as you have. :D I too, have my first and I thought last problem in 1986, but in June of 2002 I had another surgery. They wedged out another piece of my left lung. I now have one and 1/3 lungs left but feel lucky that I was healthy for 16 years.

I was a walker and hiker so I know exercise is the key. I continue to excerise three times a week at a pulmonary rehab center because they have the nurses to keep me in check and I need oxygen. Like you I had no Chemo or rad.

I'm writing to tell you to continue getting xrays or better yet, CT Scan every year. I went into a funk :x when I found out about my 2nd cancer. I felt like all hope was lost but thats not true. I didn't (once again) have to have chemo or rad as my lymph nodes were clear.

God Bless

Hi all.

Thanks again for the kind words and support. And I'm getting support wherever and whenever I can take it. Went riding with a buddy last night and met up with two others, of whom I didn't know that well, but one new of my big race. We get to a REALLY steep, rocky, long, rooty downhill that I've never ridden before, and one guy mentions he's only ever seen two guys ride this particular steep section; he looks at me and says, "I'll pay for half your 24hrs entrance fee if you ride that." (fee is $350.00 US)

I get off my bike to take a look, walk back to my bike and lower the seat,

and get on my bike, and over the edge I go. It was pretty scary, and I almost bit it twice, but I rode it! I told him he can feel good that his generous offer will help get kids to camp. He smiled.

Colleen - There is no other choice than to be out there living life.

Cathy - I've always had way too much energy. (it's that one lung thing)

Sophia - Glad I can be of some help.

Katie - Thanks for the blessing.

Gail - Hope your dad's doing OK. What a proud mother you must be.

What is your daughter studying? Mine's at U-Vic this year - Psychology

and Helene - Where have you been? Thanks for the advice - it makes sense, and I'm glad you're still exercising. We have much to talk about.

Take care everyone.

David

One of the most touching segments of Lance Armstrongs book is when his oncologist comes to him and gives him the survivors speech. It went something like as a survivor you have a responsibility to give back to do something for others, to make use of your good fortune. You are certainly doing that in a big way. What an achievement!

All the best and keep us posted.

I admire your dedication to your goal(s)! Of course, you live in one of the most outdoor-activity inspiring places on earth! I am getting through 100 degree days here in North Texas, but I have been to Vancouver and to Whistler in July (twice, 10 years ago and 8 years ago). Best of luck to you, you are not only an inspiration to folks on this board, but I know to all who know you or hear your story..... so keep on telling it!

Once again, thanks for all the support.

Don - I could use a cape right about now to get through all this training.

Ry - I haven't read Lance yet, but I think I will pick up a copy soon.

Jay - Thanks for the kind words. Maybe I'll see you in Canada soon.

Jane - I'd sure have to drink more water if I biked down there in Texas.

and Bob my friend, think we could put together a one lung bike team?

Take care all,

David P.

Again, you guys are WAY too kind.

Chris - Thanks for the kind words.

Don - I LOVE watching Lance power up those hills.

Karma - The problem is that with all the PR, there's no time to train.

Connie - My bud, where've you been?I love that you're enjoying your bike.

Deb - I'm a little like that Eveready Bunny - I just keep going, and going...

and Faylene - one big reason I'm doing this is because, I..AM..CANADIAN!!

Take care all, gotta go for a ride.

David:

Here I have been having fun putting together a golf outing for Lung Cancer, which will be this Friday, July 18 (Connie, I will welcome you with the biggest hug in the world, if you show up), and you, David, come up with this bike ride. David, I got to tell you these things are fun to do. Next year, how about a fund raising ride to Baraboo Wisconsin?:lol::lol::lol: Bring your golf clubs.

Go for it David. We desperately need the money as you well know. It doesn't matter whether the money goes to Canada or the US, it all goes to Lung Cancer either way.

David P - this is Karen, David C's wife. I can't believe you haven't heard any WV jokes, but I guess maybe you wouldn't have, up in Canada. People sorta make fun of the hillbilly aspect of the state - you know, marrying your sister and all that stuff. Anyway, just wanted you to know I posted a joke for you in the Just For Laughs forum, I hope everyone enjoys it! And best of luck with your endeavor, I think that is great, what you are doing. One thing Dave and I HAVE to do once he's done with treatment is find a way to raise awareness, especially now that I am now a melanoma survivor, too!

all my best, Karen C.
