It is normal. Not only do you miss her greatly, you miss celebrating what would have been a happy day, and you grieve that she isn't alive to celebrate being another year older.

Please know that we are here for you, we understand. It's miserable, but I hear it gets easier- never easy- but a bit easier.

Anais, yes, your feelings are normal. "Anniversary dates", like holidays, are very hard for grieving people. With time, your beloved mother's birthday will become less painful. It's good that you were busying yourself with other things, but understandable that you couldn't keep your mind on them. The grief that sneaks up on us can be especially harsh. Peace to you, Teresa
