Guest Cheryl Schaefer Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Well, still here at MD Anderson. The good news thusfar: 1. The tests they ran showed no further spread of the cancer beyond the one lung with 35+ days without treatment. 2. Surgery, which we were told was impossible here, is what they are recommending. 3. Next steps - one more diasnostic procedure tomorrow to determine if the cancer is in the wall between the two lungs. If so, chemo and radition will be applied prior to surgery for shrinkage. 4. They would remove a portion of the lung. Dick has always been a little short of breath so they will also determine with reduced lung capacity that he will be OK. 5. Stage IV here went to stage IIIA/B there. 6. Doctors are very encouraging. So, one day at a time, but I sure encourage all of you to get second opinions, especially with later stage cancer that may be treatable with surgery. Will keep you posted. Cheryl Quote
