Larry Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 What is your Hobby and is it for profit or Fun ?? Mine is for Fun >> Ham Radio >> Quote
Ann Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 My hobby is for both fun and profit. I'm one of those "nutty craft ladies." This is usually only a for profit thing around the holidays. I'm just starting a new venture making my own mylar stencils. For now, if there is anything loose...I'll make something different out of it. Hey...I just received 39 gallon paint cans that I'm turning into gift baskets!!!! Larry...Dennis was a big Ham radio person. N4IQZ Quote
Ry Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Antique collecting and it is for both fun and also an investment. I love old things. I switch to different things as I go along so I have lots of old collections in the attic or I sell them off. Right now I am into collecting old fishing lures and equipment. Quote
SDianneB Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I used to crochet a lot, but haven't lately. I'll probably start up again this winter. My favorite is genealogy. I spent several years tracing both sides of my family, and found out that they came here way back when - pre-Revolutionary War. I found great stories, photos, and several cousins I never knew I had! I thought I'd not find out much about my paternal grandmother, and now know a little something about all her siblings (she was one of 13 -- a Boone). I've found several more of my generation in this family, and until I got sick we were hoping to all meet in northeast Missouri and dig around the old cemeteries and towns while they are still there. Still hope to do that one day when and if I'm able. I know. Too much information. But it is fun! More than a hobby, I guess, but surely not for profit -- not the $$ kind anyway! Di Quote
rmm17 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I dont have too much time for hobbies...its my senior year of college and i'm apply to graduate schools, but...i like to go to the gym (let off a little steam), and i like to make fleece no-sew blankets for my friends, i am also a reality show junkie. ginnyde Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I like to cross stitch, but only very difficult projects. I like to knit. But my main passion as a hobby is reading. I would love to get into antiquing and have a lot of friends that do it so I am hoping to get started. A lot of them belong to Questors. Sounds like fun. Quote
dchurchi Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Mine is ice hockey, I started playing about 6 years ago when I was 36. However, my Dr's profit from it LOL Last year I did a 100 mile bike ride to raise money for the Luekemia society. I also took up Triathlons (small ones) last year. so I guess pretty much anything sports orinentated and all done for FUN!!! Debbie Quote
Nancy B Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Drag Racing. My husband drove Fuel Altereds, I managed Orange County International Raceway before I got pregnant) and our son drives our Top Alcohol Funny Car (5.80 seconds, 250 mph in a quarter mile). Certainly not for profit but it sure is fun. Quote
melindasue37 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 My hobby right now is coaching cheerleading. I have been coaching for 6 years. The girls are in 5th and 6th grade. They cheer at football games and are preparing for a cheer competition we have on October 23. It is a great feeling to see all their hard work paying off...they really work SO hard. I also am a huge sports fanatic (especially the Bears). I watch as much football as my free time allows. NFL, college, and my sons team too. Can never get enough! Quote
Don Wood Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Crossword Puzzles. I work the one in the paper every day. Quote
Jyoung20 Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I am a professional musician. I play the sax and quite a few other instruments. I anxiously awaiting the time where I can have the lung capacity that I used to have. I also like to play pool. I played amateur tournaments all over the country but decided that teaching music was a much more stable career. Living life, Jamie Living life, Jamie Quote
nancy c Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I am rather boring. I have no hobbies--but I need one! I do like being on the computer. I do like 000 casinos--only as entertainment--too expensive!! I like to take long walks and talk. I hate shopping!! I do like to read though. And I enjoy a beautiful sunrise or sunset, I love nature. Quote
kamataca Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Well, you'd never believe this, based on all of my typos and such, but I'm a writer! I write for profit for a fun satire weekly magazine here in town. It's also for fun, but don't tell the guy who cuts my check! Kelly Quote
Leslie221 Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I'm ashamed to say I have no real hobby because I don't have the self-discipline or stick-to-it-ness required. I have lots of interests - I like to make earrings, I used to make collages, I'd love to knit but never can get beyond making scarves/mufflers, I'd love to garden but I make plans to landscape the yard and it all seems too much. I do read and read and read and I love to do research on the computer. Oh! Well, I guess doing genealogy is a hobby! I've been working on my family for about 5 years. I do it for fun but I did profit by locating an unknown cousin I now keep in touch with! Leslie Quote
lilyjohn Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I have to say working in my flowers. Then of coarse there is crocheting and making quilts or just about any kind of hand sewing except mending (yuk) I also read a lot. I have been known to read the encyclopedia if nothing else was handy. Quote
mamasbabygirl Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 For me, it's camping and gardening. Quote
Mr Ry Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Pottery for fun and profit. I have been out of the loop for 20 years to make enough money to have a nice studio. I am taking a pottery class just to get back in to the feel of clay. It also may become my source of a high fire kiln. It sure feels good to create stuff. Quote
kimblanchard Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Let me see...could my hobby be Fishing????? Also Ham Radio since I was 14...K4KAE. jim Quote
bunny Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 hmmm. I make jewelry and, occasionally, bags (out of old umbrellas) but my skills are such that they're really only suitable for me and gifts to good friends. I also read ALOT - books, magazines, newspapers, this after reading all day at work. it's no wonder my eyesight is terrible! xoxo bunny Quote

lindseysmom Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Gosh, so many of you are so talented. I am not one of them. I play no instuments, I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. I can barely sew on a button, can't draw a straight line without a ruler. I do like to cook. Most of the time I'm pretty good. At least my family tells me I am. Best Wishes, Dee Quote
Addie Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 These days, I'm mostly down to knitting, reading and making my funky little felt "Don't Worry" and other pins. But I also used to do a lot of applique on sweatshirts, quilting, dough-art (making Christmas ornaments), making felt embroidered ornaments, crocheting and I'm a frustrated writer too~!! Some poetry and limerick writing got mixed in there too! Oh, and many years ago I made wire and bead jewelry. Mostly earrings. I like handcrafts...especially the "portable" kind you can take with you..like on an airplane or to a doctor's apptmt. Quote
Maryanne Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I make Name meaning prints that I frame. Example: Using the stationery of your choice, I put the name of the baby with the name meaning underneath, also on there is the date of birth. I also do this for Engagements Weddings & showers, with the engagement date and wedding date. I usually use this ART of MARRIAGE poem with the names flanked on the top. Can also do graduations, sports etc. It's really nice because it is personalized. I do make some money off of this, but nothing to write home about. I will be putting it on a website someday. I also own a free baby website called babababies.com. which is great for people who have relatives out of town. Maryanne Quote
