Al
Back in Decdember of 2001 a xray showed a lump min my left lung. i went thru alot of tests, they said it was stage 2 cancer. On April 11,2002 I had all of my left lung removed. They then told me that it was stage 3 with lmyp nodes involved. Two weeks latter I went back to see my surgeon he told me that I needed radiation, and that chemo would do nothing for me. I went to 30 radiation treatments, and have had nothing else since. I go back to my surgeon, and lung doctor, and radiation doctor every 6 months, and at that time I have and xray. So far nothing coming back. You people talk about brain mets, bone mets, having a oncology doctor, and this pass time my radiation doctor asked me if I had a Oncology doctor, I told him no and he looked at me kinda strange. What I'd like to know is if i'm being taken care of properly. What I have is Kaiser Healt care plan. Thanks Al
Al
Thanks for the reply. Reading about all the different ways people are treated, makes me wonder if i'm being treated right. I feel good about myself, and feel that I've got some good Doctors. I just get worn out at times. I work 50 to 55 hours a week, and it takes it's toll on me. I've put my trust in my Doctors right from the start, and so far they haven't let me down. Just wanted to be sure i'm getting all the help that I need. Thanks Al
Don Wood
Al, you may well be getting the proper treatment, but my opinion is that anyone with cancer should have an oncologist on his or her team. Don
norme
Hi Al, I bet you got a little quizzy stomach after reading on here all the various things that are happening to our loved ones with lung cancer. but don't forget, there are those on here that have been survivors for sometime. none of the patients with lc knows what is going to happen to them through this ordeal. I have learned, after being through it so many times with my loved ones that usually within one years time, if it is going to spread, it does so within that time frame to other parts of the body and during that year, the patient keeps trying all the available remedies to stop the growth. Yours might have been caught and everything is going to be roses for you, but, i would still have an onc on my side and i would still be going to see him/her very often....at least for the first two to three years after onset..... natalie
Al- My mom has Kaiser. I find that with Kaiser, the patient really has to get involved and be proactive with their care. Question the doctors, ask them why you don't have an oncologist (you should have one) and get a second opinion. Kaiser took 3 1/2 months to diagnose my mom. She had all the symptoms of a brain tumor but they wouldn't give her a CT scan because of the expense of the xray. Finally we got a scan after threatening lawsuit and low and behold, there was the tumor staring them right in the face. She had to go into emergency surgery and came close to dying. Al, I'm sure you are fine, but make sure that they've taken all preventative measures to reassure you don't get the cancer again. My intent is not to scare you. I think you are in a good position and just want to keep you there.
