joanie55 Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Wondering if anyone has experienced joint pain in their hands. I feel it much more during the night and my doctor seems to have no idea what it is. It's the strangest feeling, I wake up and find it hard to close my hands. Quote
cindi o'h Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Sounds like some kind of arthritis, Joanie. You may want to inquire to a good rheumatologist. I had a bad flare about 6 months post treatment. There are meds that can slow down joint destruction if you have the "crippling" kind of arthritis. Also, there are meds to help with pain and inflammation. According to oncodoc, the chemos suppress the immune system and after treatment, it is not uncommon to have joint pains as never before, since arthritis is an autoimmune disease. ie self attacking self. good luck. Leslie221 Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Well, now, that's a bummer. Hope it gets resolved for you soon. No personal knowledge, just wanted to say "Hi!" to my Ed Sullivan-Beatle buddy! Leslie Quote
kimblanchard Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Some days I get up and feel like I've been beaten with a 2X4.....everything hurts and nothing works. I do not feel it is related to chemo, just old age. jim Quote
cindi o'h Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 jimben.. I think she has been beating the hell outta you while you sleep. Quote
joanie55 Posted December 21, 2005 Author Posted December 21, 2005 Jimben, Don't know about you, but I'm still very young! Quote

marym Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Hi Joanie, I can't say I've had a problem with my hands, but just about everything else has ached at different times. I find Celebrex to be very helpful and I also tale morphine sulphate. Good Luck. Hope it's something minor. Mary Quote
Surveyor Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Hi Joanie, I think marym is “right on.” I’ve been taking 200 mg. of Celebrex twice a day for over 1 ½ years as an adjunct therapy. I’ve heard that it is effective in about 25% of cancer paitents. I’ve been taking it in the morning and with lunch. Recently noticed I had lots of aches and pains in the evenings and started taking the second daily tablet in the evening. Taking them about 12 hours apart really helps me with the aches and pains and hopefully it is helping me fight the cancer. Quote

joanie55 Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Thanks for the tip. What is Celebrex actually used for? I finally found out, actually figured out, that what I have is neuropathy (from the chemo). It still is nerve wracking when your whole body hurts and the doctor says everything is looking good. Quote
lindseysmom Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Hi Joanie, I had severe joint pain in hands, hips, feet etc. At times I could hardly walk. I would walk bent over for a while, especially after I had been sitting or laying down. I looked and felt like a very old woman. I think it was from the chemo. I see that you recently finished chemo also. The pain eventually did go away. Well most of it anyway. Best Wishes, Dee Quote
