Is oxycodone the same thing as morphine?

Oxycodone is not morphine. It is an opiate analgesic, like morphine, though. They may have switched her to get her onto an oral preparation vs. IV morphine. Or maybe because of constipation or drowsiness w/ the morphine. Another reason for the switch may be to wean down her opiates if her pain is decreasing. All depends on what she needs, so it's hard for me to tell why they switched her med's. without more information.

Oxycodone is time released, which help pain control. It is not morphine. It is a very strong pain killers,but it keeps the drug in your system and you only have to take it very 12 hrs. instead of every 4 to 6. With some people it helps with the stomach problems of taking to many pills. Good luck and take care.
