Mskim Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 As I suspected , everyhting has progressed and the taxotere did not have any effect. Her adrenal glands are now involved along with more lymph and the tumors in her chest are causing intense pain and shortness of breath. He said 3-6 months with no pallative care and as long as 9 months if we go for radiation and tarceva. She has an appointment with the radio-oncologist for some treatment to lessen her discomfort and said perhaps we could start Tarceva as soon as radiation is done. I knew the statistics. I felt that there was some way she would overcome. Today when the words actually came out of the doctors mouth it brought on a new reality and pain. There will be no more next year, next time or when we go and do this or do that. I am so tired. Blessings to you all. It seems that this was just another bad news day and I am not feeling postive or hopefull or anything else good. I just feel defeated. I am sorry this is so negative, it is what it is. Time to pray. Kasey Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 (((Kim))), I have no words to ease the pain of the load you are carrying. So all I can offer are my prayers along with yours for your Mom. I am so sorry. This disease is such an evil one. May you find some good days ahead yet. Kasey Quote
kamataca Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Kim, I am so, so sorry that you had a day like this. I wish there was something I could do for you, other than to tell you that you are not alone. I will pray for strength and peace for both you and your mother. You are among friends here--you can say what you need to. Anyone who has walked this path understands. Kelly Quote
Maryanne Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Kim, Yes you are right, it certainly has not been a good day. Lots of bad news here. Lets not concentrate on what the doctor said about the stastitics, just keep the faith that something may work for her, but she will have to accept treatment for that to happen. But we know this has to be her decision. I feel for you as this is your mom. And moms seem to always be there as they are the ones to always gives advice and is there to comfort us when we are down. Just keep her close and let her know how much you love her. So sorry, I pray for a more positive change. Maryanne Quote
SHANNA Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 I am so sorry. I pray you have a better day tomorrow. Quote
dadstimeon Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Kim, I'm so very sorry, I have no words just prayers for the best. Rich Quote
mamasbabygirl Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Oh Kim, I was wishing it would be better news, but you can really help yourmom by letting her know that if she wants to fight, you know of several more treatment options available for her. I think that the way to approach treatment is that you are trying to find a combo that works for you and hold it out until a better treatment comes along. Just let your mom know that this is not defeat, just a bump in the road. HUgging you and praying for you both!! Quote
tatlyn Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Hi Kim, I'm so sorry that you didn't get some positive news yesterday. I think it's very unfortunate that some Doctor's make these predictions of when the end will come because Kim, they just can't. Despite what statistics or Doctors' might say, none of us know when we will leave this earth. One step at a time, one day at a time, we don't know what tomorrow or next month might bring. God Bless. Don M Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 I am sorry Kim. Just consider that some people have a remarkable turn around with tarceva. I have also heard that it may cross the blood brain barrier and work on brain mets. At the very least, the raiation will ease some pain. Your mom should try the tarceva. Don m Quote
