Nancy O. Posted September 2, 2003 Posted September 2, 2003 I'm still fuming about the increase in the cost of chest xrays. How can they just raise the price triple? Is there some federal or state organization that regulates how much they can raise the price for tests? The excuse I received was the place where I go for xrays and ct scans is now part of the hospital and they treat it as out patient now. I just don't understand it. I was told they give a 10% discount if you pay at time of the test. $231.00 is way too much for a chest xray, Up from $81.00 just 6 months ago. How can they do this???? Quote
Snowflake Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Not sure how they can do anything they do....during radiation, I was charged $50 for using their facilities! Think I would have received a price break if they had loaded up their machines and come to my house every day??? Hidden costs in hospital bills...dunno how they get away with it... Just received a bill for $400 from February for anesthesia - seems my insurance didn't cover much of it, I needed to fulfill my deductible..??? (Will be calling later today to see what the "H" is going on there...) Try working up the "responsibility" ladder - work up to the Board and through it! Good luck, Becky Quote
Nancy O. Posted October 20, 2003 Author Posted October 20, 2003 Thanks for the reply. The issue is that we have no health insurance and pay for everything ourselves. They are very aware of this and still refuse to give us some kind of break. That is why this hurts so much financially. They raise the price and don't even let you know about it. I am in the process of now shopping around to find a cheaper place to do xrays and ct scans. It's a pain because then I have to pick up at least a couple of my last films for comparison. Oh well I'll do what I have to. Nancy O. Quote
Ry Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 Well I don't have any great insight, but you might call the American Cancer Society and see what they can do. I know they sometimes help people out financially or maybe they have a name of a clinc that will do tests at a reasonable cost. All the best to you! Quote
Nancy O. Posted December 2, 2003 Author Posted December 2, 2003 I actually have started to dig for more information about grants and other avenues of getting help with the testing. Avon helps women with breast and cervical cancer. Well I had cervical cancer in 1979 and had a hysterecomy, no financial help back them. Checking out cancercare. I am about to call the American cancer society and talk to a real person to see if I can connect to a facility that is less expensive. Thanks once again for the info. Nancy O. Quote

MO_Sugar Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 You can also contact your State Attorney Generals office and ask them to look in to it. They usually gave governing power over just about everything in the state and may be able to help. I am lucky I guess, a chest x-ray at my hosptial is $38.00 (and $58 to "read" it). Is there a county hospital or a hospital associated with a college near you? Usually you can get services like these done much cheaper at one of those and as long as you are getting your treatment someplace else you should be ok. God Bless, MO Quote
