Ann
I know we have a wide range of ages on this board, so I thought it would be neat to see how many of us have ever been to a drive-in movie? If you were one of the ones fortunate enough to experience a drive-in, do you have any special memories associated ????
tnmynatt
Drive-ins are back here in East TN for the last maybe 5 years. My kids go all the time...I haven't been since Charlie and I were dating...many years ago.
cindi o'h
I went to pleny drive-in movies, Ann. My memory is that I listened to plenty movies from the speaker that hung on the driver's side. I don't remember ever being able to watch a movie, the windows always got fogged up. Dang windows.
Linda661
My parents and I used to go to the drive-ins when I was little. I used to fall asleep in the back seat sometime during the second picture showing though -- it was great to see the flicks on such big screens with the smell of popcorn and burgers permeating the crisp summer night air from the food stand....memories of the huge speakers you had to secure in your car window; seems they vanished by the time I was in my mid to late teens (real bummer not to have those around when I was dating....hehehe). Wish they would make a come-back. They were great fun. Linda
Geri
We moved to Canada as newly-weds in 1970 and experienced them for the first time. We loved going to the dusk to dawn show......Richard used to wake me up to put on my seat belt for the drive home!! They made a come back in Ontario before we left and our daughter thought them a totally new invention! Memories Geri
patut
Oh yea - my husband's family filled the back seat of the station wagon with 8 kids, and they only had to pay for two. And what fun getting out of the car to go for the popcorn and hotdogs. Tim (9/38 to 12/04)
ginnyde
I am right there with Cindi, went often, don't remember seeing any movies. I guess that makes me old.
Don Wood
Being one of the oldest here, naturally I remember drive-in movies and went to many. My fondest memories are when I was a graduate student with wife and 2 kids and we went with our own popcorn, sodas, blankets, etc. Don

Ry
We still have drive-in movies here, so if you've never experienced them visit Michigan. John and I used to go a lot but not recently. Rochelle
Ann
Oh...drive in movies were my favorites. In Tennessee, there were still a couple around even when my boys were little. Dennis and I used to put them in their jammies and off we'd go for a nice evening. The kids would usually fall asleep in the back seat and Dennis and I could actually enjoy a movie in peace and quiet. As parents, we were too tired to fog up the windows...lol! But...during high school I did my share of fogging! I'm so glad to hear these are coming back in some areas. Sure hope this catches on in my area!!! Treebywater
I've been to two! There was one in a town near my college. The first time I went I went to see the scariest movie that I have EVER seen... It was The Others--taking place in a big beautiful house..... I went home that night to my dorm--which happened to be a big beautiful house, that had once served as a funeral home, and BOY did I have the willies! DH and I also went to one on a date before we were married. My FAVORITE part is the dancing hot dog at the beginning. Is it strange that I enjoy dancing food? mamasbabygirl
So funny you should ask. I do have a funny memory. During the time when my mom was single, she took me to see Friday the 13th I, II, III, IV at a drive-in. We had to leave very early becuase we were so scared-and it wasn't the movies we were afraid of. There was a very creepy man who was parked next to us. He kept hitting on my mom, wouldn't let up and so we took off. Funny funny funny...
Debi
I remember going when I was young and falling asleep in the back seat. Everytime we went it seemed, someone around us would forget and take off with the speaker attached to their window. Then the drive-ins went to that stupid "tune into the radio channel idea" and got rid of the speakers. My most vivid memory is when I was 18 or 19 and had the worst blind date in the world. We doubledated with my friend and her boyfriend (it was his friend!) and of course they started smooching up in the front of the car as soon as we parked at the drive-in. My horror date tried holding my hand to no avail and then all of a sudden I heard a loud "zippppppppppp" and looked down to see he had unzipped his pants and had decided to hold something else. I muttered something about going for popcorn, jumped out of the car and walked to the nearby highway to hitchhike back home. A car with 2 undercover cops stopped and threatened me with arrest for hitching and when I told them my blind date story they were laughing so hard, they decided to give me a ride instead. They called cops from the next precinct to meet them at the county line to pick me up and I ended up getting rides from 3 police precincts, having dinner with the last pair. It was actually pretty cool, to have a police escort home and it sure beat watching what was going on in that car!!!
ztweb
Ha! What memories. When my husband and I lived in Wichita, it was one of our more fun things to do...young, newly married, and we had a beater couch we used to put in the back of the pickup and haul to the drive in...what fun!! They were always triple features!
Frank Lamb
We used to hide 4 or 5 in the trunk every time we went there. We also usually stopped at a curbside burger joint first.(where they used to come to your car window and take food and drink orders). shineladysue
Oh yes, Ann, I grew up going to the drive in movies . The funniest memory I had was my little sister wanting to go to the "conception stand" and my folks correcting her and telling her to say "concession" stand... I didn't understand why my folks were laughing and laughing until I went home and looked it up in the dictionary.. In later years, I remember the windows being awfully foggy, as well. They were the good ole days. Sue
melindasue37
hahaha....loved all of your stories. We still have two in the chicagoland area but I haven't been to either. When I was younger, we lived right next to a drive in. It was a rental property and I'm not sure how, but we had speakers on our back porch. I don't even wanna think about how many times I saw at least a portion of Ghostbusters that summer!!
Maryanne
Mine was actually the same as Frank's. When they had a dollar a carload, we would have about 3 in the trunk. Just plain fun... I also remember the long lines at intermission.. I miss them. We even took our kids when they were little and brought lawn chair and sat outside the car. It was so darn fun.
