Gwen, Daddy's girl
My Dad's blood sodium is very low. It's laughable if you know of my Dad's affection for the salt shaker. Could this be the cause of great miserable pain and exaustion? He has had UTI so he was drinking extra fluids....but not extreme. A Dr. said that some cancers excrete a hormone that causes the body to dump sodium.
Linda661
This dx can cause a cascade of changes in the body. Not only low sodium, but high calcium blood levels too (among others). I would be surprised if low sodium was the cause of the pain though -- perhaps fatigue..... Sodium is a critical component of proper cognitive functioning. I have generally noted mom doing things exceedingly slow and forgetting what she's doing when her sodium levels are getting too low. When her sodium was way too low (one of things we found upon initial hospitalization leading to her dx), she got rather spacey and would just walk around in circles, forgetting to sleep, and having no clue what she was doing. Hopefully others will have more insights than I do on your question. All I can offer is what's happened with us from personal experience.....different people may react differently to such changes in their physiology.
