First of all, I would like to thank everyone that helped with advice on what to do about my suspicious spot. I really appreciate all of your input. I did go ahead & have the mediastinoscopy, which didn't help, since the surgeon could not reach "the spot". Something about my Aorta being in the way  . I was kind of getting overwhelmed and since I wasn't able to meet with my onc until yesterday, I decided maybe I could take an imaginary vacation away from cancer. So I stayed away from this site and the on-line cancer support group I participate in. I have spent a lot of time going back & forth to MI, enjoying my family (granddaughters!!), having my granddaughter stay here with me, and trying my best to thoroughly enjoy everything I could as much as I could. Back to reality now though. I am scheduled for Chest CT Scan & PET/CT Scan next week. My oncologist has set me up with an appt for a second opinion on Aug 2 at IU in Indianapolis with a group of doctors who deal only in lung cancer. So I am satisfied with that, for now. You all were always on my mind anyways and I knew in my heart I would be coming back to sad news. Especially, all those who have passed on. They are at peace and free of pain. Nevertheless, it's sad and heartbreaking. I didn't get a hall pass-didn't really think I'd be away for so long. Thanks again, Patty

Mental vacations are so important! I keep a picture in the back of my classroom that I took years ago on a camping trip to Boundary Waters. It is a peaceful sunset shot. When my students ask me what it is for, I tell them it is so I can take a mental vacation during the day from them!

Glad to see you back, and to see that you know we are here whenever you need us.

Take care!

Glad you came back. I have two spots on my ribs where they did the surgery but everyone thinks it is from spreading the ribs to get the lung out. I have had a bone scan, CT scan and X-rays since then and they still think it is from the surgery. Hope yours works out the same.

Oh Patty, This is such hard news to take. I am sorry. I know you were hoping for better results.

Hopefully the doctors come up with a good plan to stomp this spot right out.
