Please Help: Good Lung Cancer Specialist in Atlanta?

Hello Everyone,

I am new here and I am glad that I have found such a wonderful community during this frightening time.

My father is scheduled to start chemo this week for NSCLC Stage 4. They are going to start him on Taxol, Carboplatin, and Avastin for fear that his lungs may collapse if the cancer is not put under control. Though he is beginning treatment with his current oncologist, I am searching for a good lung cancer specialist in the Atlanta area. I have been researching like crazy the past couple of weeks and it would put my mind at ease if I could find a doctor that I can trust.

I know the best option would be a Comprehensive Cancer Center but my dad balked at the idea of having to go out of state for treatment (there aren't any ccc's in GA). So could anyone please offer any suggestions of great places/doctors in Atlanta for lung cancer?

Thanks,

needhope

Thanks for the link. I am looking at Emory or Kennestone for second opinions/subsequent treatments if necessary. I've heard good things about both. I just wish we lived close to a Comprehensive Care Center. I don't want my Dad to lose hope. He already mentioned a will today which freaked me out. :( This is my worst nightmare come to fruition.

I know its hard for you that your Dad mentioned a will. There are probably a hundred things on his mind right now. When my husband was first diagnosed, we decided to fight, but we also decided to get the "what ifs" taken care (will, power of attorney for medical, funeral discussions, etc.)...why or why do we wait until someone is sick, it would be so much easier to have these discussion when we are well.

While it was very difficult (we got through it with lots of tears and hugs), tackling the "what ifs" up front allowed us to then focus on beating this horrid disease.

Prayers that you find a good doctor for your Dad in Atlanta.

Go and do the will and POA and get them out of the way. Do them and forget that you did them. Do not think about them. My wife passed away with all her documents laying on her bedside table UNSIGNED. Ffortunately there were no problems with her estate being settled. we were going to sign them on the day that she passed away. BE safe and forget aboutthem. You willl not need them for a very long time, OKAY!?!

I guess I shouldn't freak out too much about the will. It's just that his sister, who he was very close to, passed away three weeks ago from cancer( a week before his biopsy results.) So I don't want him to write himself off without a fight. He has prostate cancer as well (diagnosed six months ago, unrelated to lung). His current oncologist is going to put him on carboplatin/taxol/avastin. Has anyone had this combination before? If so, what were the results and/or side effects?

Thanks,
