kickincancer
Just wondering if anyone has taken this chemo combo before, and what the results were and the side effects my mom just started this chemo on Monday could use all the info we can get. Thanks
needhope
My dad will be taking this combo this week. This is his first round of chemo. I will let you know how it goes. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Sincerely, Needhope
Don Wood
My wife was on that exact combo and it worked well for her. Halfway through the treatment, her tumors had shrunk significantly or disappeared. You have to watch for any bleeding because of the Avastin. The usual nausea, dehydration, etc. needs to be watched. Best to your mom. Don
joanie55
That was my exact chemo . Even after I finished the Taxol/Carbo, I stayed on the Avastin. My tumor shrunk by 50% after my first scan and I've been stable ever since. I had a slight progression at one point that was handled with radiation. When I was on the Avastin I was not allowed to take Aleve because of the bleeding possibility, but other than that there were no significant side effects. A little tiredness and nausea and did manage to become dehydrated. Very important to drink, drink, drink. Good luck.
Tami
I had it too. Out of the chemo protocols I used this one was the most easily tolerated. Didn't have too much problem with the nausea and/or vomiting with this. Mostly just didn't have a big appetite and tired. Like the others said drink, drink, drink. Stay hydrated and get that junk through your system. Good luck.
sharonjo
This also was my chemo regimen. I finished 6 rounds at the end of May, and have since continued with just Avastin every 3 weeks. Side effects have been minimal: joint and leg pain lasting a few days, lost all my hair - but it is growing back nicely now about 2 inches long, neuropathy in feet (pins and needles tingling and pain)persists but is manageable, achy feeling and tiredness - gets better after treatment finished. I had excellent results with this chemo combo - my doc says I'm in remission! Hope it works as well for your mom. Sharon
blaze100
I was scheduled for taxol/carbo combination, but just 1 cc of the taxol made me stop breathing. I think Taxol reaction is not uncommon - so be sure someone is watching your Mom carefully for reactions, as they need to stop the drip immediately if she becomes flushed etc. I hope your Mom responds well to chemo. Frank Lamb
I was on carboplatin and taxol 2 different times. Both times it worked well for me.The second time I was hospitalized wit g a severe allergic reaction to the taxol.I had fatigue, nausea, and sick a lot but it was worth it.I also did that along with radiation at the same time so side effects were 2 fold.I would get sick 2 days after tx every time. TracyD
I just finished round six of carbo/taxol/Avastin. It wasn't too bad. A lot of fatigue the days following chemo, feeling bloated, a bit of neuropaty, some nose bleeds, some joint aches, immediate hair loss, loss of taste every now and then, and absolutely no nausea. So far I've had good results. My scans after the second and fourth rounds showed significant shrinkage, tumors becoming hazy and the pleural effusion gone. I will have scans in a couple of weeks to see if there's further improvement, then I will go on just Avastin every four weeks. I did have an allergic reaction to the carboplatin halfway through the final infusion, but it was managed with benadryl. I wish your mom best with the treatment, it seems to work for quite a few people. Tracy
ernrol
I had Carboplatin, Taxol and Tarceva. Tarceva is also a targeted drug like Avastin. I had no bad side effects and very good results. Stay poitive, Ernie
recce101
I'm on my third 21-day cycle of carbo/taxol/avastin and have found the side effects very tolerable so far (see my recently updated profile below). Will get a better idea of results after my CT scan on 11/28 -- a standard chest x-ray taken last week indicates the situation is stable at least. Best wishes and Aloha. Battles
My dad is on very large doses of these drugs. He has stage IV adeno with one large nodule in left lung, mets to lymph nodes, adrenal gland (PET scan shows activity), and possibly pelvic bone. He receives his chemo every three weeks. They give him 475mg of Taxol, 460mg of Carbo, and 1275mg of Avasting. These are very large doses. Is this normal? He is only three days out. He was doing absolutely great until tonight when he developed a very painful headache and he had some pains in his legs. He is very fatigued. I don't know what to expect. I know initially he handled it very well.
