Last night was terrible for my Dad. He had several hours of labored breathing, pain and anxiety. After multiple doses of morphine and ativan, he was able to sleep, but not well. The breathing, however, was much better.

This morning he says he is ready to go. He is now sleeping peacefully.....

I love him so very much.

Gwen, I know how hard this must be, but take comfort that he has peace and comfort and is ready. It may in some ways make things easier for him.

I know this does not take away one ounce of your hurt though.

I can't put into words how sorry I am .

I just recently went through the same thing. it is so hard when your loved one is having such a difficult time breathing. Nothing was more difficult for Arnold than the shortness of breath. It is a time of such mixed feelings for us as care givers and close family. Give him your love - tell him every chance you get that you love him. Tell him it ok to let go (no matter how much it hurts). He needs your support in this process. Most of all he needs to be loved.

My prayers are with you. don't be afraid to cry. May God grant you thestrength and courage you need today and in the coming days.
