Patients with lung cancer can get treatment faster with a new lung cancer center in Rockford.

The Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Center is run by SwedishAmerican Health System. Now, there are pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, radiologists and oncologists all under one roof.

Before, people diagnosed with lung cancer had to see each of those doctors separately, which took weeks. That delayed treatment.

The center is like a one-stop shop. Dawna Menke, the Director of Oncology, Imaging & Clinical Services at SwedishAmerican says, "By the time you see your pulmonologist, then you get in to see your thoracic surgeon, then the specialist, then between them you're getting tests done, to expedite that we've put all the specialists together."

Lung cancer usually isn't caught until it's in a later stage, so doctors say the sooner the treatment, the better.
