karenlaureti Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Hi all, Didn't know if anyone could give me input on this. My Dad (SCLC) has been done with chemo for 2 months and just finishes his brain radiation (PCI) two weeks ago. He still has a horrible tase in his mouth and the light green coating. He was really in a panic this week as he thought it may have gone to his brain. I think I calmed him down and he is going to the oncologist this morning at 11:00 a.m. Has anyone had experience with this? I did check on line and found out that sometimes the Ambien which he takes can give that metallic taste in the mouth. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks so much! Quote
laban Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Karen, That could very well be thrush and a medicine called Diflucan would most likely clear that up. Make sure the Dr or nurse look at it. Sounds like that to me. Good luck at your appointment. Laurie Quote
Nova Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Flagyl will also cause what's known as "metal mouth", and sometimes also a "fuzzy tongue". If he takes Iron Tablets, that may be causing the greenish tint, but it's best to ask the doctor! Hope he feels better soon, Nova Quote
karenlaureti Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 Well, my Dad was at the ears, nose and throat specialist today and it is called Black Hair Tongue. This was caused from the PCI he had done. Just an FYI, in case anyone else ever gets asked about this. It can last up to a year! Just glad my Dad is really o.k. Thanks so much! Quote
enyaw061032 Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I have had this metal taste in my mouth also, and attribute it to the chemo and/or radiation. Barb Quote
