Desperate Need of Talk-Through

Recommended Posts

Hello, My name is Jessica. I am 29 and a single mom of a beautiful 10 year old little girl named Emily. On May 3, 2007, a CT Scan revealed that I had a 3mm lower right lung nodule, and a 5mm mid-lung nodule. I am very scared and fusterated. It is like pulling teeth to find out if I have cancer. I smoked for 14 years. I am taking Chantix to stop, but is it too late for me? Am I going to see my little girl grow up? Everything I have been reading about lung nodules has been very depressing. It all basically points to cancer. My health insurence isn't the greatest because I lost my job because I was sick, and it is very hard to get quality treatment, and even a straight answer. I really need someone to talk to. Everyone in my life seems to have disappeared of a sudden, and I am really scared right now. I am to have a PET Scan done tomorrow, and I have an appt. with the Pulmonary doctor on Friday, but the stress of waiting is causing me even more health problems. I also have a history of colon poylps, so that makes the fear even more intense. Any advice would greatly be appricated. Thank you for your help.

Jessica,

I would not get all upset till you know what you are dealing with. It may not even be cancer. I had a friend that had two nodules and it turned out that they were not cancer. The PET scan will give you some indication. It will take a biopsy to give a positive answer. Your nodules are so small they may just wait until they can do a biopsy. Staying calm through all the testing is one of the hardest things to do. I just had to make up my mind to try and stay positive, because like you I knew that the stress from worry would not do me any good. Let’s pray that your test will show that it is not cancer, but if it is then believe that you can be cured. We have many survivors here.

Stay positive, :)

Ernie

Hi Jessica,

Welcome and glad you came here to get some emotional support. I know how frightening this test time can be, but some nodules end up being a whole bunch of nothing. Let's hope that yours are of the nothin' variety.

Good luck tomorrow and keep us posted on the results.

Warm regards & big hugs,

Welthy

Glad you found us Jessica. Nodules don't necessarily mean cancer, so try not to assume the worst. If it should turn out to be cancer, then there are many effective treatments. We have many long term survivors on this board and we will walk this journey with you.

Welcome Jessica to a great group of folks. Take a few deep breaths and try to calm down a bit because we all know that stress is the worst thing for just about every condition known to mankind. I know that is easier to say than it is to accomplish. If it is determined to be cancer then please stop looking at the statics you read about. This board is FULL og survivors. You might ask a doc about an anti-anxiety drug.

I am very grateful for every response you all have given me. Your positivity has somewhat calmed me. My PET/CT Scan disc they had given me has a lot of hot spots in my abdomen and lung areas, but I will not have the offical results until the morning. Of course, I can not sleep, and I am re-reading all of your encouaging words to help me through this night. Again, I thank you all for listening and praying for me. I will not forget this, and I know all of your stories and will be praying for you as well. God Bless you all. And Thank You for helping me.

All the Best,

Jessica

Don't try to read the disks yourself. There are plenty of reasons for hot spots to show up on a pet, and interpretation of those is best left to the experts. A PET can indicate infection, inflammation, or a malignancy and you need the experts to figure out what those hot spots of yours are indicating.

Hello..I am updating what I can from what they have told me. I think all of your prayers helped me. I do have to play the waiting game, but I am a lot more calmer than I was a week ago. lol. I was told I have many tiny nodules, of course, too small for biopsy, so I have to have repeated CT every three months, I do have emphysema, so I now am on an inhaler, I have to go for a pulmonary test as well, I think to determine if I need oxygen for times when I exert myself. So now, I have to wait and see if they grow or metastasis, but I am taking the supplements that Ernie has taken on his road to recovery, hoping that will give me a head start for some type of lung recovery. The doctor said that I will never fully recover though, but I have a chance, which is more than I thought I had a week ago. lol. All of you have inspired me more than you will ever know, and I want you all to know that I think about all of you during my waking hours as well as in my prayers. God Bless you all and Thank you for being here for me.

Jessica

Hi Mike,

Thank you. I wish the best for you as well. It sounds as though you are doing it. Please stay positive. I have learned that here. Mind over matter. Take care, i will be praying for you.

Best Wishes,

Jessica

Hello..tiredmom. I am from the Lancaster/York area of PA. I am sorry to hear what you and your family are going through. I can empathize with you. I have seen cancer ravage many that I love. Young and old. I guess that is why I sort of freaked out and paniced initally. But, what everyone here says is true. Stay positive, don't give up, and pray. If you need someone to talk to, I am more than willing to listen. Take care. Best Wishes, Jessica
