Mendy Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 My husband finished radiation in March. The CT scan shows a pleural thickening in his upper right lobe (the "good" lung) which has been present in previous scans. The oncologist wants to have a PET scan done tomorrow because the pleura has grown a little bit since the last scan. The good news in that his CEA marker is 1.1 and the normal range is 3. Now, his job situation rides on the test results. He has an offer for a very good company that is based in Atlanta and an ok job offer for a local company. We live in MD so this is obviously a big decision. My insurance will not cover him in GA and the new health insurance takes 90 days to kick in. I am in the interview process with a prospective employer in the Atlanta region. Even if I don't get this job, at least the Atlanta company will fly my dh home every other weekend. So many decisions! Oh, and of course both employers expect him to report for the first day tomorrow (Atlanta company will train him in this area before sending him down south). Please say a prayer for great PET scan results tomorrow. I think we are due for some positive changes. Mendy Quote

Mendy Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 Yesterday started out as a day of second guessing my husband's decision to take the job in GA since that would mean separation. Then I looked at my email and I had an invitation for the interview I have been waiting for-all expenses paid! That is almost unheard of in my field. Then, while my husband was waiting to have his PET scan, the local job called him and told him not to bother coming in, they didn't need him. That was providence finalizing the decision to take the GA job (which is what I think will be best for our family longterm. At 6:30 pm he received his call from his oncologist and the scan is "clean." The pleural thickening is most likely radiation burn. Almost 9 1/2 months post surgery and no other cancer has been detected. We are overjoyed right now. And, he finally has returned to work this morning after being on leave since the middle of last August. Now, if I can just nail this job on Monday then we will be moving to GA. Thanks for your continued support and good wishes. Mendy Quote
Liz13 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Happy tears. You couldn't have planned it better. Welcome to Ga. You will do great on the interview. Hugs, Liz Quote

recce101 Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Mendy: I got simultaneous goosebumps and tears reading your last post and had to take a break. Are you familiar with the word "synchronicity"? I just finished a book with that as the title written by Joseph Jaworski, son of the Watergate prosecutor (though this has nothing to do with politics, break-ins, or executive branch abuse of power). Carl Jung defined synchronicity as "a meaningful coincidence of two or more events, where something other than the probability of chance is involved." Those with a religious orientation might call it divine intervention, while others might look to a different explanation. But when events come together at just the right time, wonderful things can happen, and that flow can continue for a good while. I hope that's the case for your family!! Aloha, Ned Quote

Best of luck with your new adventures and new home. I was also diagnosed IIIA after surgery. That was over 4 years ago. Hope my profile helps a little. Nina Quote
