Bev'sSister
I had a great visit with my sister this weekend. She looks a little pale, and she is short of breath, but she is in good spirits. THAT GIRL CAN EAT. I don't know if it is normal to gain weight while fighting lung cancer, but she has gained about 25 lbs. I hope that is a good thing though. Just wanted to let everyone know she seems to be getting better. I hope it is the Topotecan that is working on her. Are there any signs of knowing this for sure, besides the usual ct scans? Muriel
That's great news! Glad to hear it. I gained a lot of weight during chemo. Only problem is that I'm having a lot of trouble losing it now. It's really important that she eat if she can and drink lots of water. trish2418
The steroids given with chemo caused me to gain a lot of weight. Once I started radiation, though, I lost the weight I had gained and more. I'm glad she's eating. Trish
KatieB
Sounds like a great visit and I'm glad shes eating well and hoping she keeps up her strength! I don't think there are tell-tale signs of topo. working other than scans, but if her appetite and attitude are any indication, I'd say things are looking positive!! Praying things continue to go well for her!!! Keep us posted!
lc46
That's great. Yes the steroids will make her very hungry. My Mom said she was hungry as soon as she got done eating. Now that my Mom is off them she has the complete opposite reaction-she is not hungry @ all and has lost a couple pounds. I am trying to get her to eat constantly. When does Bev get scanned again? My Mom hasn't had the CPT11 for 3 weeks because her #'s were down. Hopefully they will be back up when she goes tomorrow. Keep me posted Dar
Maryanne
Glad you had a nice visit! I am sure that has helped you feel better. Keep us posted on her progress. If she is on steroids then that is where the weight gain is comin from. But I am glad she is eating. take care Maryanne

Connie B
Yep steroids sure can give an appetite. How well I remember! Some people do gain weight from chemo's as well, not real common, but it does happen and I have seen it happen to others. Glad to hear she's feeling better. Continued good wishes. Don't know if you'll know the results of the Topotecan till the next scan. Just hang in there with her and enjoy life. My prayers continue.....
