Karma1976 Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 Ok i have an idea too on how we can help lung cancer research. I just emailed Mayor Bloomberg since NYC has a smoking ban in effect. I suggested that the fines they get for violations of the smoking ban be donated to lung cancer research??? Quote
Guest Estrea Posted April 1, 2003 Posted April 1, 2003 Except we are in such a fiscal crisis he will never go for it...But, maybe we can all write to him -- it can't hurt! Quote
Karma1976 Posted April 1, 2003 Author Posted April 1, 2003 You never know. Since he was a former smoker he might take it to heart more than we can say, and not to mention i think the smoking ban would go over better if people knew the fine was at least going to a good cause. Also I know my city Boston is suppose to be doing this soon so i plan on emailing Mayor Menino too. who by the way is president of the mayors council so maybe we can persuade him to pass this along. I think using the fines as profit is a horrible idea no matter what the economy is like. In Amhesrt when they did a smoking ban, bars just rallied up and when one got fined they split the cost. If they want it to work they should really look towards making it seem like it is for a reaosn other than profit. Quote
