Dad was just diagnosed with late stage lung cancer

Hi:

My Dad was being treated for 'giant cell arthrtic' (a non-life threatening, non cancer disease) since last April. A month ago his arm went numb and after a week in the hospital we were told he had late stage lung cancer which has spread to brain (hence the weakness), andreanal gland, pelvis, etc.

Needless to say we are shocked. My Dad has already been very healthy and lively.

He has gone thru 3 weeks of radiation to his brain and a week of radiation to his lungs. The doctor said he isn't strong enough for chemo. We stopped radiation a week before originally planned because he is so weak. He is in a wheelchair now.....sometimes a walker and needs help sitting up, etc. We are working with hospice as well.

Any advice welcome. I'm hoping that by stopping the radiation that he'll re-regain some strength for awhile so he can enjoy life for a bit.

Thanks for your responses.

Cathy,

I hope the respite from radiation will allow your Dad to regain some of his strength, so he may enjoy many of the things he did before he got so tired. Enjoy your time as a family, each day as it comes. There are many small blessings in each and every day.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

MaryAnn
