My mom had WBR in August and lost her hair from that treatment. She is now in the middle of her chemotherapy with her last treatment scheduled for December 17th. Today she asked one of the nurses when she could expect her hair to grow back and the nurse told her since she had WBR it might not grow back. This really upset my mom. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who has had WBR followed by chemo. who would be willing to give us some insight? Is there a chance her hair might never grow back? I really appreciate any information you can give!

Thank you--

Col had WBR and chemo. Her hair is growing back. It seems like it is doing so at a snail's pace, and it grows more where there was less radiation and less where there was a more concentrated radiation. But it is growing back.

Hope this helps, and Hopefully everything works out for you.

My mom had both WBR and chemo followed by Tarceva. Her hair grew back but very slowly. We thought the Tarceva might have been slowing it down a bit too but it was definately growing back. Hope that helps!

My mom had WBR and only 1 cycle of chemo, which she did not tolerate at all. Her hair never grew back. But, her hair was a little thin to begin with so that may have been the reason.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I think it will help my mom to have hope that it may grow back, but also be prepared in case it doesn't.

I just started WBR today. I start Bioten yesterday. I did Bioten when I did chemo last year and I didn't ;ose my hair. Just trying to see if it will work with WRB. Will keep you updated. Doctor said about 2 weeks. I'm starting my bandanas now so everyone can get use to them. Hugs, Liz

My dad had PCI (lighter dose than WBR) and I can say that his har did not grow back as thick as before. It did grow back but it is the thin cross-over kind now!

Would your mom be comfortable in a wig?

She does have a wig, but she doesn't like it. She says that it's uncomfortable--the longest she can wear it is 1-2 hours. It's getting her through right now, but she was hoping she could look forward to putting it away some time in the future. She's still hopeful that she'll be exception and her hair will grow back. We'll see.

Only four more weeks and she's done with the chemo!
