Cy joined our group Nov. 24th. He was diagnosed with NSCLC - Stage IV on Sept. 19th. This is his obituary from the Oglathe, KS newspaper.

Sr. Patrol Officer Cyrus “Cy” Ryan Middleton

Sr. Patrol Officer Cyrus “Cy” Ryan Middleton, age 31, passed away December 8, 2007, at his home in Olathe, surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, December 13, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Black Bob Rd., Olathe, followed by funeral services at 10 a.m., Friday, December 14, at College Church of the Nazarene, 2020 E. Sheridan, Olathe. Interment, Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorials to the KU Endowment Association for Lung Cancer, Attn: Pat Dietzman, Support Services Bldg. #124, 2100 West 36th Avenue, Kansas City, Kan., 66160.

Cy was born August 5, 1976 in Springdale, Arkansas, to Ron and Vicki Middleton. He served his community as both a Deputy Sheriff with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, and as a Sr. Patrol Officer with the Olathe Police Department. He was currently working as a Field Training Officer, and had also served with the K-9 Unit. Cy received his Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University.

He married Mikki Watterson on June 8, 2001, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., and together they made their home in the Olathe area. They welcomed their son, Evan, into the world on October 5, 2007. Those who knew him will always love him, and he will remain within their hearts.

He is survived by his wife, Mikki, of the home, and their son, Evan; his parents, Ron and Vicki Middleton, Springdale, Ark.; his brother and sister-in-law, Colby and Brandy Middleton, Tennessee; two nephews, Noah and Caleb Middleton; mother and father-in-law, Frank and Barbara Watterson, Olathe; brother and sister-in-law, Kris and Sarah Watterson, Spring Hill, Kan.; and special friends, James and Laura Fredrickson, Kansas City, Mo.

He was so young and his story really touched my heart.

What a beuatiful tribute to someone who was and is a very spacial man. I pray his young son will be surrounded by people who will help him to know how special his father was.

This one just gets to me on so many levels. Prayers for everyone involved. It's just not fair. I think angry John is about to come out. I'll leave it at that. Many condolences to everyone.

I just went back and read his posts. I had missed his second update. This is just horrible. I feel so bad for his wife and baby.

Such a young man gone and a baby left without a father. How incredibly sad...

My deepest condolences goes out to his family and freinds.
