kimblanchard
My mother was diagnosed Sept. 2003 with stage IV ncslc and is really suffering. I would like to know the best test for myself for early detection. I am a non-smoker, although it may not matter, but my mother was a smoker for many years. I have heard of a spiral CT-Scan or an MRI as a possibility. Not sure what others may have had. Any suggestions would be appreciated. mhutch1366
Hi Kim, Ask your mother's oncologist what he would recommend. There have been several threads in the last few weeks concerning what tests would pick up what kinds of tumors. I don't blame you for feeling jumpy about cancer, it's a natural response. Getting screenings regularly is a good idea for peace of mind. Good luck and prayers to you and your mom. MaryAnn
Guest Estrea
By far and away the best test is a CT Scan. It is quick and painless and you can get it nowadays without going to a doctor. You just need to find a radiologist that does the Spiral CT screening for LC...for more info go to: http://www.nypcancer.com/prevention/issue6/lun_can.html
kimblanchard
Thank you for the information. I will talk to my mother's oncologist and also look into the spiral CT scan. It is so unfortunate that so many people live with this horrible disease and don't know it until it's advanced. Thank you. Kim
