dchurchi Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Well Alan had his 1st appointment with his medical oncologist since chemo started up again, and we did not get very good news. After just 2 cycles of what is considered very mild chemo all Alan's blood counts tanked. In fact we went straight from the Drs office across the street to the hospital for an overnight stay for blood transfusions as hemoglobin down to 8.3 Alan's white blood cells are down to 900. So the plan now is one more attempt with etoposide, but now it will be 1 week on and 2 weeks off. In addition Alan continues to get weaker, now needs to use a wheelchair if we leave the house and he is down to 147 pounds. Nobody is giving up hope, Alan has fought the beast for over 3 years now, and we all feel he has more fight left in him. Please keep us in your prayers that Alan's counts go back up in the next couple of weeks so he can give chemo one more try. Quote

Nova Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Debbie, I'll be keeping you and Alan in my prayers, for sure. He and Harry seem to be going thru such similar situations, with the reactions to the chemo drugs, etc. Hoping that Alan has a quick "bounce back", as Harry calls the episode's when he starts feeling better, after feeling so lousy.
